Never insert any object or tool through
the air
cooling slots, even if the engine is not running.
NOTE:
DO NOTuse a gardenhoseto clean generator. Water can enter
the enginefuel systemand causeproblems,in addition,if water
enters the generatorthrough coolingair slots,some water will
be retainedin voidsand crevicesof the rotorand statorwinding
insulation. Water and dirt buildup on the generator internal
windingswill eventually decrease the insulationresistanceof
thesewindings.
3.4.2 TOCLEAN THEGENERATOR
• Use a damp cloth to wipe exteriorsurfaces clean.
• A soft, bristle brush may be usedto loosen caked on dirt, oil,
etc.
• A vacuumcleanermay be usedto pick up loose dirt and debris.
• Low pressure air (not to exceed 25 psi) may be used to
blow away dirt. Inspect cooling air slots and openings on the
generator. T heseopeningsmust be kept cleanandunobstructed.
3.4.3 ENG/NE MA/NTENANCE
When working on the generator, always
disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug and
keep wire away from spark plug.
3.4.4 CHECKING OILLEVEL
Seethe "Before Starting the Generator"section for informationon
checkingthe oil level.The oil level should be checkedbefore each
use, or at least every eight hours of operation. Keepthe oil level
maintained.
3.4.5 CNANG/NG T HEO/L
Changethe oil after every 100 hours. If running this unit under
dirty or dusty conditions, or in extremely hot weather,changethe
oil more often.

,_Hot
oil may cause burns. Allow engine to
cool before draining oil. Avoid prolonged
or repeated skin exposure with used oil.
Thoroughly wash exposed areas with soap.
Use the followinginstructions to changethe oil after the engine
coolsdown:
1. Cleanarea around oil drain plug.
2. Removeoil drain plug from engine and oil fill plug to drain oil
completely into a suitable container.
3. When oil has completely drained, install oil drain plug and
tighten securely.
4. Fill engine with recommendedoil. (See "Before Starting the
Generator"for oil recommendations).
5. Wipe up any spilled oil.
6. Disposeof used oil at a proper collection center.
3.4.6 REPLAC/NG T HE SPARK PLUG
Use Champion N9YC spark plug or equivalent.Replace the plug
every 200 hours.This will help the engine start easier and run
better.
1. Stop the engine and pull the spark plug wire off of the spark
plug.
2. Cleanthe area around the spark plug and remove it from the
cylinder head.
3. Set the spark plug's gap to 0.70-0.80 mm (0.028-0.031 in.).
Install the correctly gapped spark plug into the cylinder head
(Figure14).

3.4.7 BATTERY R EPLACEMENT (IF APPLICABLE)
NOTE:
The battery shippedwith the generator has been fully charged.
A battery may lose some of its charge when not in use for
prolongedperiods of time. If the battery is unable to crank
the engine,plug in the 12V charger includedin the accessory
box (see the Charging a Battery section). RUNNING THE
GENERATOR D OESNOTCHARGE THE BATTERY. The part number
for this batteryis 0Gg449.

,_The
NEGATIVE battery terminal should:
1.
Always be DISCONNECTED FIRST.
2.
Alwaysbe CONNECTED LAST.
