Turning
System On
-
The
system is auto-
matically turned
on
by moving
the
blower
control
switch from the
"OFF"
position
to
a
choice of anyone of
four
speeds,
"LO, MI,
M2, or
HI".
These
blower
speeds are
used for
cooling, heating,
de-
frosting
or
ventilating
as
follows
:
For Cooling
- Push
the
"NORMAL"
but-
ton to provide 100%
outside
air to
enter
the
cooling system.
Adjust
the "TEMPER-
ATURE"
lever
to
satisfy your comfort.
The "NORMAL" setting
is
usable
during
hot-dry
weather,
moderate
swnmer
weath-
er and
cool.
rainy weather.
During
rainy
weather, window
fogging is discouraged
by the use
of one
of
the
two high blower
settings.
the
"NORMAL"
button depressed
and
the
"TEMPERATURE" lever adjust-
ed
to maintain
comfort
with the higher
air flow.
For
maximum
cooling
during
hot-humid weather, push the
"MAX"
but-
ton. This
allows a
mixture
of 80%
recircu-
lated air and 20% outside air
to
enter
the
cooling system.
For Heating
-
Push the
"HEAT"
button.
This allows
100%
outside air
to
enter
the
heating
system.
To
warm
the
air
to the tem-
perature you want,
move the
«TEMPER-
ATURE"
lever to any position between
"COOL" and "WARM."
This permits the
proper
mixture of heated
air
and
outside

to
enter
the passenger
compartment
through
the heating
outlets.
For Defrosting
- Set
the "TEMPERA-
TURE"
lever
to obtain the
air
temperature
you want. Next, push
the
"DEF"
button.
This directs
approximately 90% of
the
heated
air
to the windshield
and
10% to
the passenger
compartment
through the
heating outlets.
For Ventilating - Push the "VENT" but-
ton. This
allows
100%
outside air
to
enter
the passenger
compartment
through the
air
conditioner
outlets. Heat
may
be
add-
ed
to the vent air by using the tempera-
ture
lever.
For Humidity
Control
- The
compressor
is
engaged
by depressing the
"NORMAL"
or "MAX"
button.
Once
engaged.
the
compressor
will
run until the
ignition
switch
is
turned
off.
This
will remove
humid
air from
the
system
and minimize
rapid fogging
of
the windows which can
occur
if humid air is blown onto
cool glass.
In mild
weather, when
use
of
the heater
or
defogger is desired
and
the
air condi-
tioner was
previously used.
operate
the
ail' conditioner
in the
"NORM"
or "MAX"
position before
switching
to
"HEAT" or
"DEF"
from the "OFF" position.

To T urn System Off - Move
the
blower
switch to the
"OFF" position.
NOTE, When "HEAT", "VENT", "DEF",
buttons are pushed or system turned
"OFF" after being operated in "NOR-
MAL" or "MAX", the
compressor
clutch
will not be disconnected until the ignition
switch is turned off.
Hood
Lock

The Hood Lock is
an additional
theft pro-
tection
option
that
prevents
unwanted ad-
mittance to the engine
compartment
when
the lock lever
is
in the
"LOCK"
position.
The
control
is located to
the
left
of
the
steering column
on the lower
edge of
the
dash panel. To unlock the hood,
move
the
lock lever to
the "UNLOCK"
posi-
tion.
The hood may be
raised
in the
con-
ventional manner using the
dual
hood
latches
at
the front
of the vehicle.
Night-Watch
Light Control
The Oldsmobile
"Night-Watch"
light con-
trol
(optional equipment)
provides for
