The starter grip must locate firmly in the
guide bushing. If the grip droops to one
side: Add one more turn on the rope
rotor to increase spring tension.
When the starter rope is fully extended it
must still be possible to rotate the rotor
another half turn. If this is not the case,
the spring is overtensioned and could
break.
Take one turn of the rope off the
N
rotor.
Fit the fan housing on the
N
crankcase.
Move the Master Control lever to the
N
stop position (0).
6
Push the remaining rope into the
N
starter grip so that the nipple (6) is
flush with the top of the grip.
MS 460
Replacing a broken rewind spring
Remove the rope rotor.
N
The bits of spring may still be under
tension and could fly apart when you
take them out of the fan housing – wear
face protection and work gloves.
Use a screwdriver to carefully
N
remove the parts of the spring from
the housing.
Lubricate the new spring with a few
N
drops of non-resinous oil.
Place the new spring with frame in
N
position in the fan housing – the
anchor loop must engage the lug in
the housing.
Apply suitable tools (screwdriver,
N
punch, etc.) to the recesses
(arrows) and push the spring into its
seat in the fan housing – it slips out
of the retaining frame in this
process.
Reinstall the rope rotor, tension the
N
rewind spring, fit the fan housing
and secure it in position.
