Notes regarding the DIN EN ISO 13406-2 standard

Permanently unlit or lit pixel
The standard of production techniques today cannot guarantee an absolutely fault-free screen
display. A few isolated constant lit or unlit pixel (picture elements) may be present. The maximum
permitted number of pixel faults is stipulated in the stringent international standard ISO 13406-2
(Class II).
Examples:
A flat-screen monitor with a resolution of 1680 x 1050 has 1680 x 1050 = 1764000 pixel or resolution
of 1920 x 1200 = 2304000 pixel. Each pixel consists of three subpixel (red, green and blue), so there
are almost 5.3 million subpixel (1680 x 1050) or 7 million subpixel (1920 x 1200) in total. In
accordance with ISO 13406-2 (Class II), a maximum of 7 pixel and 10 subpixel (1680 x 1050) or 8
pixel and 11 subpixel (1920 x 1200) may be faulty.

A pixel consists of 3 subpixel, normally red, green and blue. A pixel is
the smallest element that can be generated by complete functionality
of the display.
A subpixel is a separately addressable internal structure within a pixel
that enhances the pixel function.
A cluster contains two or more defective pixel or subpixel in a 5 x 5
pixel block.
