  • Page 2 43-434.fm Page 2 Friday, August 13, 1999 8:15 AM INTRODUCTION The RadioShack Automatic Two-Line Adapter lets you use any single-line touch-tone telephone with two-line telephone service. The adapter lets you make calls on either line, and put a call on hold while making a second call or answering a second line.

    43-434.fm Page 5 Friday, August 13, 1999 8:15 AM INSTALLATION INSTALLING THE ADAPTER Connect the adapter to any RJ14 two-line modular jack using the supplied four-conductor modular telephone cord. Plug the telephone cord into the adapter’s LINE jack. Plug the remaining end of the telecord into an RJ14C modu- lar telephone jack.

    43-434.fm Page 6 Friday, August 13, 1999 8:15 AM • The telephone company charges to install the necessary jacks. • The USOC number of the jack to be installed is RJ14C (or RJ14W for a wall plate jack). • After you install the adapter, check to be sure there is a dial tone.

Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw from the battery compartment cover, then remove the cover. 2. Insert six fresh batteries into the compartment, as indi- cated by the polarity symbols (+ and –) marked inside the compartment.
  • Page 8 43-434.fm Page 8 Friday, August 13, 1999 8:15 AM • The POWER indicator does not light if the two-line adapter is powered by internal batteries. Using AC Power To power the adapter from an AC outlet, you need an AC adapter (not supplied), such as Cat.
  • Page 9 43-434.fm Page 9 Friday, August 13, 1999 8:15 AM Follow these steps to connect an AC adapter to the two-line adapter. 1. Insert the AC adapter’s barrel plug into the adapter’s jack. 2. Plug the AC adapter into a standard AC power outlet. The POWER indicator lights.

When you pick up the connected phone’s handset, the IN USE indicator lights steadily and line 1 is automatically se- lected unless it is currently in use. To select the other line, press twice.

IDENTIFYING THE CURRENT LINE To find out which line you are on, press * If you are on Line 1, the adapter sounds one beep.
