Withthe ignitionkeyinthe NORMAL M OWING p osition, t he electricPTO
(BladeEngage) clutchwill automatically shutoff if the PTO (BladeEngage)
knobis moved into the engaged (ON) p ositionwiththe drivepedalin
positionfor reverse travel.
Donot operate the tractorif the interlocksystemismalfunctioning. T hissystem
wasdesigned for yoursafetyandprotection.
Engagingthe ParkingBrake
Toengage the parking brake:
I.
Fullydepress t he brake pedalandholdit downwith yourfoot.
2.
Movethe speed controlleverall the waydown andinto the parkingbrake
position.
3.
Release t he brakepedalto allowthe parkingbrake to engage.
Toreleasethe parking brake:
I.
Depress t he brakepedal a ndmovethe speed controlleverout of the parking
brakepositionandinto adesired speed.
Setting the Cutting Height
1.
Select t he heightpositionof the cuttingdeckbyplacingthe decklift leverin
anyof the differentcuttingheightnotches onthe right sideof thefender.
2.
Adjustthe deckwheelssothat theyarebetween1A-inch a ndY2-inch above
the groundwhenthe tractorisonasmooth, f lat surface such asadriveway.
Toadjust DeckWheels:
I.
Remove t he flangelocknut onthe shoulder bolt securing thedeckwheel.
2.
Position the wheelto the desired heightaslistedabove. S eeFigure 9.

Secure the shoulder boltwith the flangelocknut.
Keephandsandfeet away from the dischargeopening of the cutting
deck.
NOTE: Thedeckwheels areananti-scalp featureof the deckandarenot designed
to supportthe weightof the cuttingdeck.Referto Leveling inthe Maintenance a nd
Service sectionof thismanual f ormoredetailedinstructions regarding various deck
adjustments.
Starting the Engine
Donot operatethe tractor if the interlock systemis malfunctioning. This
systemwasdesignedfor your safetyand protection.
NOTE: R efer t o the Gasoline and011 fill-up instructions earlierinthissection.
I.
Insertthe tractorkeyintothe ignitionswitch.
2.
Place the PTO (Blade Engage) l everinthe disengaged (OFF) position.
3.
Engage the tractor'sparkingbrake.
4.
Activatethechokecontrol bymovlngthethrottle/chokeleverall thewayupinto
the chokeposition.
5.
Turnthe ignitionkeyclockwise to the START p osition. A fterthe enginestarts,
release the key.It will returnto the ON(orNormal M owing)position.
DoNOTholdthe key in the START position for longer than ten seconds
at a time. Doing so may cause damage to your engine's electric
starter.
6.
Afterthe enginestarts,deactivate the chokecontrolandplacethethrottle
controlinthe FAST p osition.
NOTE: D oNOT leavethe chokecontrol o nwhileoperatingthe tractor.Doing sowill
resultina"rich"fuel mixtureandcause the engineto run poorly.
Stopping the Engine
If you strike a foreign object, stop the engine, disconnect the spark
plug wire(s) and ground against the engine. Thoroughly inspect the
machine for any damage. Repairthe damage before restarting and
operating
1.
Ifthe bladesareengaged, p lacethe PTO (BladeEngage) l everin the
disengaged (OFF) p osition.
2.
Turnthe ignitionkeycounterclockwise to the STOP p osition.
3.
Remove t he keyfromthe ignitionswitchto preventunintended starting.
DrivingTheTractor
Avoidsuddenstarts, excessive speedand suddenstops.
Donot leavethe seatof the tractor without first placingthe PTO (Blade
Engage) l everin the disengaged(OFF) p osition, depressingthe brakepedal
andengaging the parkingbrake.If leavingthe tractor unattended,also
turn the ignitionkeyoff and remove the key.
