    Your Kamado Rocket requires an initial heat cycle to properly break in. You will need to bring the temperature up to approximately 225F for one hour. When you have done this, let the Kamado Rocket naturally cool down on its own.

    Once you are sure that all connections are free from leaks, you may now proceed with lighting the burner in your Kamado Rocket. Start off by opening the damper a few turns, and then opening the lid as well to its full open position. Simply use the supplied lighter through the draft door opening with your left hand so that the flame is just above an orifice in the burner while slowly turning the key valve with your right, (approximately 1/3 turn from the closed position in the counterclockwise direction).

    Remove ash and debris if needed. Stir existing charcoal from the last cook to get the ash to drop to the bottom of the Kamado Rocket. If need be, remove the ash from the bottom to prevent restricting the airflow.

    There is no need. It is different than fall back method of “let it turn gray.” You will just need to adjust the draft door and damper to bring your Kamado Rocket to the desired temperature once the coal is lit.
