GENERAL DESCRIPTION and APPLICATION The Monroe Electronics Model R198 is a network controlled multichannel Analog to Digital convertor and AES program switching system, used to insert EAS alerts into Broadcast Audio Streams. The unit features an unbalanced analog mono audio master input or unbalanced stereo master input, and 4 independent AES program in’s and out’s.

INSTALLATION The unit is supplied in a 19 inch rack mount. Mounting hardware is supplied to install the unit into the desired location. Mount the unit and cabling as shown in the drawing below.
Page 7 The green LED on the front panel indicates power is ON in the unit. Unbalanced monaural or left unbalanced stereo audio is input from the EAS source on pins 1 and 2 of the XLR female connector in the MASTER section as shown on page 6. And, if desired, right unbalanced stereo audio is input from the EAS source on pins 1 and 2 of the XLR male connector in the Master section.

CONFIGURATION and ADJUSTMENT It is encouraged to verify proper configuration before installing the unit in the rack Each AES channel is factory set to 48KHz. If any channel requires a different setting remove the lid to access the AES boards The AES signal sampling rate may be set with the slide jumper on the AES circuit board as shown below.

Directly connecting a networked host computer Connect a CAT-5 network crossover cable to the RJ45 port at the back of the R198 and to the RJ45 port of the network interface card (NIC) of a standalone PC or notebook computer.
Page 10 Setup Configuration The Setup mode of the R198 allows you customize several settings. – Some of the settings are the unit’s IP address, Netmask, Gateway, network speed, mode and passwords. There is no user name required to log into the Setup, and the default password is shown in bold between the quotes “monroe”.
Page 12 Changing the Network settings – Enter the new network settings as desired. When you have reviewed your settings and want to keep them ,click on “Submit”. These new changes will show up in the Network tab, but will not take affect until the power is removed and reap- plied to the unit.
Page 13 “Submit” button to store the change. Passwords may be up to 10 characters in length. If the passwords are forgotten, the R198 can be set back to factory defaults by removing the power from the unit, pressing and holding the Reset button on the back of the unit, and recon- necting the power to the unit.while keeping the button depressed.
