About the System This manual is a guide for using the CORE•CHECK ® Tympanic Thermometer System Model 2090. The CORE•CHECK ® Thermometer is designed to measure infrared energy emitted from the tympanic membrane. Infrared energy is generated by the vibration and movement of molecules in all matter. As temperature increases so does molecular activity, causing an increase in the radiation of infrared energy.
