4.6.5 The SNA2TCP Communications Module The SNA2TCP communications module is the interface between your MVS system and the PRISMAproduction server. SNA2TCP is started automatically by the MVS system when a print request is received, and closed once the job is complete. In normal operation, SNA2TCP needs no intervention from the user.
SNAP-IX has Motif and character-based user interfaces for configuring and running the system. The SNAP-IX software package enables you to attach an PRISMAproduction system to an SNA network via Token Ring. This chapter describes the main functions and features of the application and specifies sys-...
The APA-Module LU 6.2 Connection 4.6.7 Application/ Example It is assumed that users are already familiar with the PRISMAproduction system and that PRISMAproduction is already installed and configured. One point should be mentioned: a (remote) printer has to be set up on the MVS side; this is the printer to which you submit the jobs that are to be transferred to the APA-Module sys- tem.
Page 46
The APA-Module LU 6.2 Connection APA-Module Components Log of print job This JOB LOG is in the queue defined with the attribute MSG-CLASS (here 'Z') in the print job file. You can display the LOG file in MVS SDSF to find out the status of the printout. You can view the contents of the queue with the command 'OZ', for example, and display the contents of the log file with the command 's'.
APA-Module Components The APA-Module LU 6.2 Connection The print job is then processed in the same way as a job that is generated locally. For further information on job processing, please consult the description of the Explorer and APA-Module componenets in this manual. The example above assumes that the SNAP-IX daemon program is started automatically when you boot your LINUX host.

5.1 Introduction The PRISMAproduction Explorer provides full functionality for monitoring and administra- tion of the PRISMAproduction system. The tree structure makes it easy to access functions. This structure is only available when the connection to the server has successfully been performed and all the data have been transferred.
Page 70
Introduction PRISMAproduction Explorer In detail the Explorer is devided in the following sections: • Setting up Workspaces (See chapter "Task related Workspaces" on page 65) • Configuration (See chapter "Configuration" on page 137) • Connections (See chapter "Connections" on page 67) •...
PRISMAproduction Explorer Using the Eplorer 5.2 Using the Eplorer PRISMAproduction Explorer represents a frame, which provides access to all java based PRISMAproduction components. To open the ‘Explorer’ window click the icon in the bottom bar of the Linux desktop. The tree structure of the server node is only available if the connection to the explorerserver has been successful and if all data have been transferred.
Using the Eplorer PRISMAproduction Explorer The left section of the window shows the Explorer tree: the structure of the system. The right section shows the active application. The applications that have been launched are each presented by a tab. The tab belonging to the active application is shown in a dif- ferent colour.

Connections PRISMAproduction Explorer When you double-click a particular server, you are shown the connections viewer with a list of the connections that exist with the server in question. This data is intended for adminis- trators, the purpose being to provide an overview of the connections that are currently in operation in the PRISMA network.
5.6 Server Files Via this node you have access to the files in the following directories on all computers of the PRISMAproduction network. Here you can also compare files and directories (see also "Directory Viewer" on page 132): 5.6.1 Libraries This node gives you access to logical library paths and their contents on the system.
Server Files PRISMAproduction Explorer • $PFL (Print File Library) contains archives with jobs ready to print. • $PREPRINTS contains archives with jobs which still have to be modified. Not all actions are allowed in the archive viewer, because this will disturb the internal ad- ministration of the Print File Library (PFL).
5.7 Job Lists 5.7.1 General PRISMAproduction keeps a list of all the jobs in the system, together with their attributes. This list is presented in an easy-to-understand manner. The job list can easily be quite ex- tensive, so users can apply filters to display only jobs that match particular criteria. The standard filtered lists are the list of active jobs, completed jobs and jobs with errors.
Job Lists PRISMAproduction Explorer It is advisable to adjust the display of the list according to your own needs. You can for in- stance hide columns, adjust the column width etc. To do this, you can use the general Ex- plorer functions as described at the beginning of the Explorer chapter.
If the job list is sorted by the Express/Prio column in descending order, all jobs are on top, which will be processed next. Print jobs in PRISMAproduction have a priority and a time stamp. The priority is shown in the print queue column "Express". Print jobs are put in the print queue with priority '128'.
Page 86
Job Lists PRISMAproduction Explorer The following columns are only visible, if they are activated via the pop up menu entry ’Show co- lumn’ (right click in the column head): Accepted Date and time of the job acceptance. Started Date and time of jobstart.

This version introduces a flexible user administration. You can use this tool to set up PRISMAproduction users and permission groups and to administrate them. Generally all applications have to log on PRISMAproduction to get access to the functions of the server applications like the Explorer server or Licence server. This takes effect either within the system for the connection between master and slave or (even more) for a con- nection from outside the system, e.g.
PRISMAproduction user administration, • on the Slave if the account created for the PRISMAproduction login is the same as the one created for the Linux login. Auto-login is not allowed if you access PRISMAproduction from outside (via workstation).

Printer Configuration 6.14.16 Grey Curves What is the use of this function? This function was originally designed for conventional printing processes and basically helps to optimize physically different printing units for a consistent print image. This applies basically also to digital printers. The same datastream may have different results on differ- ent digital printers.
Page 207
Configuration Printer How is this function to be used? The sliders of the dialog (see above) represent a mathematical curve, which leads in its de- fault position almost linear from the bottom left corner to the top right corner of the window. This results in a linear - therefore even - conversion of the input grey values to the output unit.

An lpr command is used to send data for printing to a specific printer queue. These queues are defined in the lp.ini file on the PRISMAproduction host. The parameters in this file are combined with a default ticket. The printer queues would be used to store data for sending to a set of printers connected in some way to the computer.
Once the data has been fully and correctly received, any specified submission com- mand is called and the data is then used to create the print job in the PRISMAproduction spool.

Configuration Download (license dependent) 6.20 Download (license dependent) The Host Download option allows the APA-Module to communicate with an MVS host for downloading SPDS/AFPDS print data via a TCP/IP connection. It is compatible with PSF MVS Download. The Host Download feature is implemented by a background process (daemon) which monitors a TCP/IP port for incoming data.
HotDir Configuration 6.21 HotDir Introduction to Hot Directories Hot directories allow you to transfer data of any kind via ftp, NFS or copy to the system and to process them automatically. Therefore the data are transferred to predefined directories, which are then processed as indicated (e.g. create and submit print jobs). The HotDir program is a daemon searching all predefined directories for print data within a defined period of time.
Configuration TicketRules If you want to print the data in a defined order, you have to indicate this order in the OCT. If necessary, the HotDir programm adds the paths. If the definition is missing in the OCT, HotDir adds the files in alphabetical order. The program only monitors the OCT's and gen- erates the print jobs via the PJM.
Page 222
TicketRules Configuration 3. Insert the conditions (ticket section, parameter, operator and value) and results (ticket section, parameter and value): 4. Save your definitions In the above example a message appears the job window, if the job is nor AFP job and big- ger than 1 MB.

8.1 Introduction The Print Job Manager (PJM) is the common tool used to interactively define and submit jobs to the PRISMAproduction system. The description of a print job is saved as the ‘Job Ticket’. Depending on the licensed lan- guage modules (i.e. APA-Module, POD-Module ...) different file formats can be processed.
‘Set Working Mode’). PJM as part of the Explorer and Web Client PJM runs either within the PRISMAproduction Explorer or the Web Client. As part of the Web Client there are technical restrictions (which are mentioned in the description of the Web Client).
