Gel Cell batteries dissipate at a rate of around 4 % per month, so 6 months in storage will drop them by approx 25%. A GT-Kontiki battery can be used to power the GTK-Winch, but because it is smaller, it will not operate it for as long as the larger winch battery.

YOUR KONTIKI. Installing the flag Push the flag into the hole in the top of the GT-Kontiki. Do not operate the GT- Kontiki without the flag. If you wish to permanently attach the flag, use good quality waterproof glue. Remember to use Only the GT-Kontiki flag supplied.

For maintenance, the threads of the strobe cover should be cleaned and lubricated with a small amount of Vaseline or Silicone grease. If it needs replacing, remove the strobe from your GT-Kontiki by firmly pulling upwards. Strobe Light...

Move the hatch across to either to the left or right while lifting the hatch up, the locking tang is locked into position to ensure optimal hatch fitting. Standing at the control panel end of the GT-Kontiki, inside to the left are three retained battery cables with connectors. Gently pull all three connectors out and up from the battery cavity, so they are accessible.

Note: Sand or any other debris may reduce the integrity of the seal between the hatch and GT-Kontiki hull and water ingress may result. Please ensure these components remain clean at the time of fitting.

Propeller Start/Stop Speed Set Button Button Switch The Control panel of the GT-Kontiki allows for fast programming and gives clear indication of battery charge and selected run time. To activate, touch the panel once with the GT-Magnetic Stylus and the green LED will light up.

GT-Kontiki will follow. Until this is set, the motor cannot be started. Setting the bearing lock will also lock out the Speed Set and Run Time functions, so this is the last operation to do before starting and launching your GT-Kontiki at the waters edge.

Run-time Display The Run-time display is a bank of LEDs on the right-hand side of the control panel indicates the programmed run time of the GT-Kontiki. This is controlled by passing the magnetic stylus over the ‘Time Set’ button situated below the LED bank.

You can access this by undoing the four Phillips head screws on the control box. When replacing the lid of the control box, make sure the lid seats properly on the seal to prevent water getting inside the box.

GTK-Winch Remote A great new feature of the GTK-Winch is the two-button remote control. The remote allows for greater control while engaging in single handed GT-Kontiki operation and is used to facilitate unhooking and releasing of undersized fish and unwanted species at the water’s edge.

You can order replacement remotes and batteries through the store that you purchased your GT- Kontiki from. To re-programme a new remote, make sure the winch is powered up and switched off, and then press both buttons on the remote at the same time and then turn the winch on.

The kit comes with a spare set of traces. Additional standard trace sets and deluxe trace sets fitted with a lumo bead and clear plastic tubing can be purchased from the store your GT-Kontiki was purchased from. Note: The trace board has room for 26 traces. Current New Zealand fishing regulations only permit a maximum of 25 traces per line.

Motor/Propeller assembly. The Carabineer clip hooks onto the lug at the rear of the GT-Kontiki and requires the knurled safety lock to be secured – make sure this done up tight before launching.
(You may need to drill a 2mm diameter hole to start them off.) The trace board hangs on the two lugs on the handle, the propeller guard of the GT-Kontiki hangs off the lug on the crossmember with the two fins sitting in the indents in the bait board.

Why Not Take a look at our free Tutorial DVD GOING FISHING WITH YOUR GT-KONTIKI First time fishing with a GT-Kontiki is easy once the equipment is familiar and introducing yourself to all parts of the GT-Kontiki is recommended before starting.

Areas near river mouths may have sunken logs that could snag your line. If you can see a rip heading out to sea, you can use it to help your GT-Kontiki get out faster. An offshore rip also suppresses the wave heights.

Method 2: Remove your baited traces from the trace board and lay them on an angle next to the main line with the clip towards the winch and the hook facing out to sea.

Setup the run time and motor speed using the GT-Magnetic Stylus. Point the GT-Kontiki in the direction you would like it to travel. If there is a current flowing along the beach, adjust the heading to compensate. Making sure there are no metallic objects or strong electric fields nearby that may interfere with the GT-Kontiki.

Once all the traces have launched, let the line feed out until the GT-Kontiki stops. If you think your line is far enough offshore and the GT-Kontiki is still running, engage the GTK-Winch motor to stop it taking out any more line.

Why Not Take a look at our free Tutorial DVD Retrieving the GT-Kontiki When you are ready to retrieve your GT-Kontiki, make sure that the winch faces the direction of the line and engage the GTK-Winch motor. Select slow retrieval speed and press start.
Take out the strobe battery to prevent it activating at night. Charge all the batteries and leave the battery cover off the GT-Kontiki to allow air to circulate. Note: Leaving the battery cover on for long periods will reduce the effectiveness of the seal.

Tutorial DVD After storage If you have left your GT-Kontiki unused In storage for some time, give it a thorough inspection before heading off to the beach. Check the hatch seal for dirt, damage or distortion. Replace if in doubt.
Make sure the rudder is working by starting the motor and then moving the GT-Kontiki from side to side to see if the rudder turns. If the rudder does not work. Return the GT- Kontiki for servicing.

The GT-Kontiki has considerable buoyancy, but it can be pulled under the water under certain circumstances. When you are retrieving your line, the GT-Kontiki may be pulled under. This is quite normal and it will pop up when you stop winching. ...
