1.1 Purpose
The purpose of this document is to describe the APIs implemented on the Linux based LA-51XX Compact
Flash Adapter driver to communicate with an 802.11 device running with SHoC (Self Hosted Client) firmware.
1.2 Definitions Acronyms and Abbreviation
• AHB - AMBA Advance High Speed Bus.
• AP - Access Point
• API - Application Programming Interface
• FullMac - FullMAC architecture is best suited for embedded systems where host memory and MIPS are
constraints. FullMAC is a complete firmware that runs on NIC and provides 802.11 functionality. FullMAC
firmware runs from Internal Memory only and supports wireless client mode functionality only.
• LAN - Local Area Network
• Linux - Linux Operating System
• MAC - Medium Access Control
• NIC - Network Interface Controller
• OID - Object Identifier
• OS - Operating System
• PCMCIA - Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (16 Bit)
• PIMFOR - Proprietary Integrated Mechanism For Object Relay
• RAM - Random Access Memory
• ROM - Read Only Memory
• SHOC - Self Hosted Client: It is the complete firmware that runs on NIC and provides 802.11 functionality.
SHoC firmware can run from both internal and external memory. Firmware running in SHoC mode can
work in both client and AP mode.
• SRAM - Static Read Only Random Access
• STA - Station
• SSID - Sevice Set Identifier
• Vendor ID - Vendor Identification Number
