Introduction The Installation Guide takes you through the process of connecting and configuring the Sun Cobalt™ Control Station for your network. A typical setup process takes less than 15 minutes, after which you can begin using all of the services on the Sun Cobalt Control Station.
You can access the user manuals in PDF format from the Server Desktop UI. If you have installed third-party software on the Sun Cobalt Control Station, the relevant documentation is also available. To access the PDF file for a user manual, click on the help icon in the top right corner.
Station The installation process occurs in two phases. • Chapter 2, “Installation”, explains the physical connection of the Sun Cobalt Control Station to a power source and the network. • Chapter 3, “Setup Wizard”, explains the process of network integration through a browser-based Setup Wizard.
Disk indicates activity on the hard disk drive. The Web indicator blinks to indicate Web activity. 3. The Logo Badge glows when the Sun Cobalt Control Station is powered on. 4. The LCD screen displays messages and values entered. Use the arrow buttons to toggle between choices or to enter values.

Installing the Sun Cobalt Control Station If you plan to operate the control station in an equipment rack, you must first attach the mounting ears included with the server. Figure 6 shows the LCD console for the Sun Cobalt Control Station. The LCD screen on the front of the control station displays two lines of text. The top line of the LCD presents instructions on data to enter; the bottom line displays the data already entered.

Use one of the standard Web browsers such as Netscape Navigator™ (version 4.7 or later) or Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 5.0 or later) to do this. Once the setup process is complete, the Sun Cobalt Control Station can be managed from any computer on the network with a valid Web browser.

Configuring the Sun Cobalt™ Control Station with the Setup Wizard To configure the Sun Cobalt Control Station, enter information into the fields on the Setup Wizard screens. These fields are described in the sections that follow. The Setup Wizard is a series of screens that guide you through the setup process.
When the information is entered correctly at each stage, the control station enters the changes in its configuration files before proceeding to the next step. Changes may take several seconds to complete.

On this screen, you can configure the network settings: • Host Name. Enter a host name for the Sun Cobalt Control Station. The host name and the domain name combined together should uniquely identify this server. Enter only lowercase alphanumeric characters, dashes or periods. For example, qube3 is a valid entry.

Configuring the Sun Cobalt™ Control Station with the Setup Wizard Gateway on a LAN Complete this section only if you intend to connect the Sun Cobalt Control Station to the Internet through an existing gateway located on a local area network (LAN).

Product Registration The Product Registration screen appears; see Figure 13. If you are connected to the Internet, you can register the Sun Cobalt Control Station by completing the online registration. If you do not want to register online at this time, click the right arrow at the bottom to move to the next screen.
If you completed the Product Registration screen, click the right arrow at the bottom. Once the Sun Cobalt Control Station has been configured, the Control Modules screen appears; see Figure 14. The buttons on the left side of Server Desktop UI provide access to the information and functions on this site.
