TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

Your AVR 130 receiver has been designed to provide many years of trouble-free service. In the event that you are experiencing difficulties, please check the suggestions
below for a possible solution to your problem. Additional information on the AVR 130, including updated information and user hints, is available from our Web site at

SYMPTOM
Unit does not function when Main
Power Switch 1 is pushed
Display lights, but no sound
or picture
No sound from any speakers
No sound from surround or
center speakers
Unit does not respond to
remote commands
Intermittent buzzing in tuner
Letters flash in the channel indicator
display and digital audio stops

Processor Reset

In the rare case where the unit's operation or the
displays seem abnormal, the cause may involve the
erratic operation of the system's memory or micro-
processor.
To correct this problem, first unplug the unit from the
AC wall outlet and wait at least three minutes. After
the pause, reconnect the AC power cord and check
the unit's operation. If the system still malfunctions, a
system "reset" may clear the problem.
To clear the AVR 130's entire system memory includ-
ing the tuner presets, output level settings, delay times
and speaker configuration data, first put the unit in
Standby by pressing the Standby/On Switch 3
so that the Power Indicator 2 turns amber. Next,

CAUSE
• No AC Power
• Intermittent input connections
• Mute is on
• Volume control is down
• Amplifier is in protection mode
due to possible short
• Amplifier is in protection mode
due to internal problems
• Incorrect surround mode
• Input is monaural
• Incorrect speaker configuration
• Stereo or Mono program material
• Weak batteries in remote
• Wrong device selected
• Remote sensor is obscured
• Local interference
• Digital audio feed paused
press and hold the Tone Mode Button 6 for three
seconds.
The unit will reset and then turn on automatically. Once
you have cleared the memory in this manner, it is nec-
essary to reestablish all system configuration settings
and tuner presets.
The reset will not affect settings that were programmed
into the remote control. To reset the remote control
and restore it to the factory default settings, please
follow the instructions on page 29.

SOLUTION
• Make certain AC Power Cord ‚ is plugged into a live outlet
• Check to see whether outlet is switch-controlled
• Make certain that all input and speaker connections
are secure
• Press Mute Button

• Turn up volume control
• Unplug the AC Power Cord ‚ and check speaker wire
connections for shorts at receiver and speaker ends
• Contact your local Harman Kardon service center, which you can
locate by visiting our Web site at www.harmankardon.com
• Select a mode other than Stereo or Dolby 3 Stereo
• There is no surround information from mono sources
• Check speaker mode configuratioin
• The surround decoder may not create center- or rear-channel
information from nonencoded programs
• Change remote batteries
• Press the AVR Selector f
• Make certain front-panel sensor is visible to remote
• Move unit or antenna away from computers, fluorescent
lights, motors or other electrical appliances
• Resume play for DVD
• Check that appropriate Digital Input is selected
Memory Backup
This product is equipped with a memory backup sys-
tem that preserves the system configuration informa-
tion and tuner presets if the unit is accidentally
unplugged or subjected to a power outage. This mem-
ory will last for approximately four weeks, after which
time all information must be reentered.
