Note: Flashing lights can either mean that the babyBOX is rebooting, or babyTEL is upgrading your system automatically. For more on the latter, please see Automatic Updates on page 16.

Connect an Ethernet cable from the Ethernet jack (10Base-T) of the DSL modem to the WAN jack of the babyBOX. [See Figure 1: Cables for a view of the various cables.] Connect a second Ethernet cable from the ENET jack of the babyBOX to the Ethernet jack (also called Network Jack) of the computer.

Allow two minutes for the babyBOX to reboot. Close the Internet browser. When the lights on the babyBOX have stopped flickering and the VoIP light is on, you are ready to use the babyTEL service or surf the Internet. When you pick up the telephone receiver you should hear a dial tone.
Connect your telephone set to the PHONE1 jack of the babyBOX. Plug the AC adapter that came with the babyBOX into a wall socket, or preferably, into a surge-protected power bar. Connect the power cord from the adapter to the PWR socket of the babyBOX.

Automatic Updates Automatic Updates From time to time babyTEL may need to download updates to your babyBOX in order to keep your system current. This procedure is completely automatic and requires no action on your part. CAUTION During a download, which may take up to two minutes, the lights on your babyBOX may flicker.
