    1. 7 Precautions on Set Up Copy machine performance and the copy quality is subject to and dependant on environmental conditions. To maintain good performance, quality, and safe operation, observe the following precautions: 1) Do not install the system under the following conditions to operate safely and avoid trouble.

  • Page 17 • There are normally no special problems with storage and transport in a cold climate but, store in a low humidity condition. Do not put supplies near heaters. 5) Safety and hygiene Toner has the property of easily being wind blown. Toner on skin does not cause any damage to health but, inhaling it is undesirable even if a powder is simply dust.

    Section II New Function 2. 1 Image Control (Quantum Technology) • Even if the toner density is at it's standard level, the copy image may vary with time depending on the characteristics of drum and the environmental variations. To prevent this change, the copy density sensor which is installed under the developer unit controls the image to stablize the copy image.

    2. 4 ETP System -Evaluative Toner Processing To maximize the number of copies which can be produced for each bottle, toner cleaned off of the drum needs to be returned to the developer for re-use. Under normal circumstances, the copy process can damage some toner. In addition, other undesireable materials may be cleared from the drum surface and mixed with re- useable toner (such as paper dust, etc.).

    3. 2 Operation Sheet bypass paper feed 1) Construction of the sheet bypass paper feed unit The construction of the sheet bypass paper feed unit consists of a sheet bypass paper feed roller, transfer roller, paper pass sensor, DFP roller, and timing roller.

  • Page 31 2) Paper feed unit operation • By pressing the Print key, the electromagnetic clutch turns on, and the revolution of the main motor is transmitted to the idle gear through respective gears and belt. The idle gear which is connected to the middle roller gear rotates.
  • Page 32 3) Paper drawer lift mechanism • When inserting the paper drawer, the lift lever connects with the coupling which drives the the machine side lift lever. Next, the lift motor rotates, and it's drive is transmitted to the lift lever driving gear via respective gears, and rotates the lift lever to lift up the drawer bottom plate.

    Developer unit 1) Construction of the developer unit • The developer unit consists of the magnet roller, sleeve, transport screw and mixing mill. • The developer is mixed and charged by the transport screw and the mixing mill and is transferred on the developer sleeve. The developer on the sleeve forms a brush by the magnetic force of the magnetic roller, and makes contact with the electrostatic latent image on the drum.
  • Page 34 2) Developing • The developer mixing unit contains developer which is a mixture of fine powder (non-magnetic toner) and fine ferrite carrier. • The developer is mixed by the transport screw and the mixing mill. The toner becomes charged ( + ) and the carrier becomes charged ( – ). The developer is magnetically stuck on the aluminum sleeve of the magnet roller, and the magnetic brush is formed.
  • Page 35 3) Driving developer • The revolution of the main motor is transmitted to the developer drive gear via respective gears and belt. The developer is connected to the main body with the gear. The sleeve gear is connected with the mixing mill gear and the transport screw gear to mix and transfer the developer.

  • Page 37 5) TDC sensor • TDC sensor which is installed under the developer transport screw is an inductance type sensor is used to detect the ratio of toner to carrier in the developer. The sensor measures changes of magnetic flux density, and monitors the toner density in this way.

    Toner hopper unit 1) Construction of the toner hopper • The construction of the toner hopper is as follows. Part description Function Toner bottle Supply toner. Home position sensor Detect the home position of toner bottle. Reserve tank After storing toner in toner hopper, supply to developer mixing unit.
  • Page 40 2) Supplying toner The toner hopper unit supplies toner to the reserve tank by turning the toner bottle. • When the TDC sensor in the developer unit detects lower toner density the toner hopper motor (stepping motor)operates and rotates the toner supply roller to supply toner to the developer mixing unit, from the reserve tank.
  • Page 41 3) Toner level detection • When the toner level sensor in the toner hopper detects no toner remaining, and does not detect toner after continuously turning the toner bottle "Add toner" is displayed. The copier is disabled. The machine can be used after the user's key input. After lighting the no toner indication, the machine stops after 300 copies.

    Paper transport unit and separation unit 1) Paper transport unit The paper transport unit transports the paper after transfer/separation. Paper is secured by the suction fan and transferred to the fuser using the transfer belt. • The paper transport unit is driven by the main motor which is transmitted to the paper transport drive gear via respective drive gears.

  • Page 45 2) Fusing The fuser unit makes the image permanent by fusing the toner with the heat of heat roller and the pressure of pressure roller. • The upper heat roller of the fuser unit is excellent in toner release characteristics and has applied a treatment to enhance the durability and antistatic nature of the finish.

  • Page 47 5) Temperature control The heat roller is provided with two halogen lamps (main heater lamp and sub heater lamp). The main heater lamp turns ON during warming up and copying operation. To control the maximum power consumption, the sub heater lamp turns ON during warming up and after release of pre-heat mode only in order to reduce the warming up time of fuser unit.

  • Page 54 d) Lighting blacking prevention lamp (black belt at both ends) • In reduction, both ends of drum surface are not lit by the exposure lamp, and these areas forms black, which is increase in toner consumption.
