ARX-6 VHF Audio Receiver/Recorder

Quick Setup Guide

The ARX-6 is a powerful VHF band audio surveillance receiver/recorder for monitoring in-progress
investigations or recording evidence. The audio transmitter is not included. ARX-6 features include:
One-button recording to SD card media (2GB SD card installed) or USB flash drive
Internal battery for up to 12 hours of operation
Receives and records 1 of 16 preset VHF channels

Step 1.
Charging the ARX-6
Charge the ARX-6 before use. It may take up to 8 hours to fully charge the unit. A fully charged ARX-6 will
provide about 12 hours of use.
1.
Unscrew the fuse socket cover located on the right side of the case.

Insert the fuse provided into the fuse socket cover (see above).

Screw the fuse socket cover with the fuse back onto the fuse socket.
4.
To unlatch the ARX-6 cover:
a.
Push and hold down the locking tab (1).

b.
Flip out the bottom of the latch (2).
c.
Let the top of the latch fall away from the cover (3).
d.
Open the other latch the same way, then open the cover.
5.
On the ARX-6 deck, toggle the main power switch to off (toward the MAIN POWER label).

Plug the power adapter into the power adapter plug on the right side of the case (below the fuse
socket), then plug the power adapter into a standard 120 Vac outlet. The BATTERY CHARGING
indicator on the deck will light.
7.
Allow the ARX-6 unit to charge fully. When the battery is fully charged, the voltage indication is at
about 12.90 Vdc.
8.
After charging the ARX-6, disconnect the power adapter.
Step 2.
Connect the antenna
Connect the antenna to the BNC connector on the
right side of the case above the fuse socket. Adjust
the antenna so that it is vertical.

  • Page 2 Step 3. Basic usage Readjust the VOLUME level as needed. Switches and indicators on the ARX-6 deck Set the SQUELCH switch up or down to produce the best sound quality. Recording audio With the ARX-6 setup to listen to transmitted audio as described above, do the following: Verify that an SD card or USB flash drive is installed in the recorder module, and sufficient space is available in the media to record. NOTE: The recorder uses approximately 1MB of storage space for each minute of recording (MP3 format). Press (briefly) the POWER button on the recorder module to power it on. The recorder display will illuminate. Press the SD - USB button to select the media you want to record to. The media type selected will appear on the recorder display. Press the REC button. A large “REC” indicator will appear on the lower line of the recorder display. Switch / Indicator Function Press the PLAY/R button to begin recording. A small “REC” will appear on the upper line of the Indicates the internal battery voltage output. Normal operational range: > 12.00 Vdc recorder display, and the media type where the recording is saved will flash. When the battery voltage drops below 12.00 Vdc, recharge the unit.   • Page 3 Recorder module usage APPENDIX A Delete current playing track, can be operated while in STOP mode or during PLAY — mode. Press DEL button, LCD displays flash DEL FILE, then press DEL to confirm the deletion. Features LCD display will show DEL END. Delete all the files: In STOP or PLAY mode — Records directly to USB storage device or SD card • Press the STOP button Recording format is MP3 • Press DEL key for more than 5 seconds Compatible with up to a 16GB USB storage device or SD card (SDHC compatible) • LCD display shows “DEL ALL”. To confirm the delete of all the files, press DEL again. Adjustable recording quality, choice of 128 Kbps or 192 Kbps with 44.1 KHz sampling rate • To cancel delete function, wait for LCD stops flashing, then cancel the delete function. Easily playback of recorded tracks stored on a USB storage device or SD card • Direct delete function when playing a single file • LCD Display Operation and function of the use of panel description Messages on the recorder LCD display are shown in the following graphic.
