General Information Safety information Please read and follow these instructions for your own safety and to ensure that your device functions properly. Broadway is meant for use as described in this user manual only (intended use). PCTV Systems S.à r.l. assumes no liability for activation or use and its consequences in a way other than specified in the user manual. Warranty is declared void in case of improper use. Note that Broadway was developed for indoor use only. Power cable and plug Please be sure to follow the following instructions in order to prevent the device from malfunctioning and to prevent electrical shock, fires, and injuries:  You need to remove the power plug to disconnect the power completely.  When disconnecting the power to your box, always unplug it by pulling the plug itself and not the cable.  Do not ever plug in or unplug the power cable with wet hands.  Keep the power cable away from heaters and radiators.  Never put heavy objects on the power cable.  Do not try to repair the power cable yourself or to modify it in any way, shape, or form.  Regularly clean off the dust, dirt, etc. from the plug.  If you drop the box or damage it in any fashion, disconnect the power plug.  If you notice smoke, strange smells, or noises, disconnect the power plug. Contact your dealer immediately. ...
Page 8: Where Not To Install The Box
PCTV Systems – Broadway HD-S2 Where not to install the box Do not install the box in any of the following locations:  In direct sunlight, next to radiators or other heat sources or in vehicles parked in direct sunlight with all the windows rolled up and the doors closed.  Locations with extremely high temperatures (35°C/95°F or greater) or levels of humidity (90% or greater).  Very dusty or sandy locations.  Locations where there are vibrations, shaking or slanted surfaces underneath. This could damage the components in the box.  On flammable surfaces such as cloth‐covered tables.  Keep the box away from flower vases, bathtubs, sinks, etc., and from locations where the box is exposed to precipitation. The box may be severely damaged if any liquid enters it. Problems with other devices  Set up the box in a horizontal position and do not place any heavy objects on it.  Do not place the box on an amplifier or any other device that gives off heat. ...

General Information Condensation Condensation may develop in the box in the following circumstances:  Right after a nearby heater or radiator which has been turned on,  In a very humid or steam‐filled room,  If the box was moved from a cold location to a warm one. Condensation in the box may cause it to malfunction. In this case, turn off the box and wait around 1 hour until the condensation has evaporated. Then you can use it again. Non-use  If you are not planning to use the device for a long period, you should unplug it from the power socket. Accessories  Use only the accessories included with or recommended for the device in order to minimize the risk of fire, electrical shock or interference. Overview Welcome to Broadway by PCTV Systems Dear customer, We would like to thank you for choosing a PCTV Systems product. You have made an excellent decision. Broadway by PCTV Systems is a new way to watch live TV on your Apple® iOS (iPhone® / iPad® / iPod touch®) or Android™ mobile device – at home via WLAN or around the world via the Internet. Broadway is a standalone device which connects to your satellite dish (LNB) / satellite multi switch or cable/satellite set top box for pay TV and streams live TV wirelessly to Apple iOS or Android mobile devices as well as to any PC or Mac. Live TV can be watched over your home network (LAN / Wi‐Fi) or it can be streamed over the Internet anywhere in the world where your mobile client device has an Internet connection. In addition you can connect a USB mass storage device (hard‐disc or flash‐ drive) to one of Broadway’s USB ports and start recording your favourite TV show. The Program Guide page offers you the free‐to‐air program data sent by the TV‐channel and makes it easier for you to schedule a recording. The Broadway Box LEDs  Ready‐LED Blinks white – after Broadway was connected to the power source and during the booting process (this might take a time) or when you change between WLAN and Ethernet mode and vice versa. Fast blinking – means the firmware is being loaded. Slow blinking – means Broadway waits for an IP address to be assigned. Lights white – Broadway received an IP‐address from the router of the network and is ready to use. Not illuminated – Broadway is in standby mode or without power supply.  WLAN‐LED Blinks green – data is being transferred via the wireless connection. Lights green – Broadway is in WLAN mode.  USB‐LED Lights red – a USB hard‐ or flash‐drive was mounted. Fast blinking – an error occurred. Slow blinking – recording in progress. PCTV Systems – Broadway HD-S2 The power supply unit Broadway may only be used with the provided power supply unit. The power supply unit is delivered with an interchangeable plug. The included plug depends on your location. Insert the plug Before first use, insert the included power plug into the power supply unit body. Proceed as follows:  Slide the top of the plug into the designated slot on the power supply unit body as shown in Figure a.  Push the plug (see Figure b) until it audibly clicks into place (see Figure c). Depending on the provided power supply unit model, it may just be required to slide in the plug until it audibly clicks into place. ...
Page 19 The Broadway Box Change the plug If you need to change the plug for use in another region, proceed as follows to release the plug:  Unplug the power supply unit.  Pull the Open button downwards. The button is located on the power supply unit, underneath the power plug.  The plug pops out.  Now insert the appropriate plug as described in the section “Insert the plug”. Depending on the provided power supply unit model, it may be required to click on the button located underneath the power plug in order to be able to remove the plug. The Software The Broadway user interface Depending on your client device, a dedicated user interface will be displayed. A compact user interface will be displayed on devices with low resolution (e.g. Smartphones), whereas a standard user interface will be displayed on devices with high resolution (e.g. iPad, Mac and Windows PCs).  The compact user interface looks like this: The compact user interface provides an overview of all available functions. Page 27 The Software The Admin pages You can access the Admin pages from your local network (LAN) only. The complete range of functions is available in the standard user interface only. The range of functions in the compact user interface (on an iPhone or Android Smartphone) is slightly limited. Make sure the IP address range you set for your network devices is in conformity with the TCP specifications for private address spaces, namely: 10.0.0.0 – 10.255.255.255 127.0.0.0 – 127.255.255.255 169.254.1.0 – 169.254.254.255 172.16.0.0 – 172.31.255.255 192.168.0.0 – 192.168.255.255 Select this option to configure your Broadway. Page 28 PCTV Systems – Broadway HD-S2 Channels Select this option if you want to run a channel scan or if you want to create or edit your favourite TV channel lists or the IR‐channel list. Network Select this option to change the hostname or the communication port of your Broadway to manually assign a static IP address (LAN or WLAN) to your Broadway, to enable the WLAN function of your Broadway or to check the state of your Internet connection. Storage Select this option to prepare and select the USB hard‐ or flash drive you want to use for capturing or EPG data storage. Maintenance Select this option to reboot or to restore the default factory settings of your Broadway, to update the installed firmware or to save and restore settings. Setup Wizard Select this option to start the Broadway Setup Wizard or the IR‐Learning Wizard. The Wizard will guide you through the Broadway setup procedure helping you configure the way the device is connected to the router. In addition to that you can also use the Wizard to run a channel scan. The IR‐Learning Wizard offers you step by step instructions on learning the infra red (IR) remote control codes of your set top box (cable or satellite receiver) so that you can use Broadway to switch your set top box on and off and change channels. Important Note: If, after changing the configuration of Broadway, you are no longer able to access it, we recommend restoring Broadway to factory default settings. Setting up Broadway Overview Momentarily Broadway does not support IPv6 addresses. You have two possibilities to operate Broadway:  Wired – the Ethernet Mode Broadway is connected via an Ethernet cable to the router of your network. This is the easiest and fastest way to setup your Broadway for watching digital TV in your local network. This configuration is required for the initial Broadway setup. Use this setup scenario when the TV signal source and the router of your network are in proximity. E.g. the satellite socket and the telephone socket for your broadband Internet connection are on the same outlet wall plate. In this case a wired connection between Broadway and router would be the optimum solution.  Wireless – the WLAN Mode Broadway is connected wirelessly to the router of your local network. Use this setup scenario, if there is a longer distance between TV signal source and router. For instance you place Broadway in the living room, where your satellite socket wall plate is located. Your router is located in another room. In this case, the installation of a wired connection between Broadway and your router would mean cumbersome efforts. Broadway’s integrated WLAN function overcomes this problem in a most convenient way. Note that even though you want to operate Broadway wirelessly, when you set it up for the first time, you have to connect the Broadway box to the router using an Ethernet cable. After successfully setting up the wireless connection you can remove the Ethernet cable. ...

Setting up Broadway Step 2: Connect the TV-source If you wish to operate Broadway wirelessly, we recommend connecting the TV‐source only when prompted. You can connect the following video sources to Broadway: 1. Satellite dish (LNB) / satellite multi switch Connect the antenna cable to the Ant‐Input at the back of Broadway 2. Cable or satellite set top box for pay‐TV Connect the AV‐outputs of your setup box to the AV‐inputs on the back of your Broadway. Use stereo audio cables and S‐Video or composite video cable. If required you can also use a SCART adapter. 3. Security camera (cameras with USB plug only are not supported) Connect a security camera to the AV‐inputs on the back of your Broadway. PCTV Systems – Broadway HD-S2 Step 3: Connect the IR-Blaster Cable (optional) The Infra Red (IR)‐Blaster feature enables you to control an external TV source, such as your cable/satellite set top box by means of Broadway. To do so, Broadway needs to learn the commands of the remote control of your set top box. These commands include the 0 to 9 keys and in addition some optional keys. After completing the learning process, Broadway takes over the function of your set top box’s remote control. This means, via Broadway you can change channels of your set top box.  Connect the included IR‐Blaster cable to the IR‐connecter on the rear side of your Broadway.  Stick the IR‐Transmitter of the included IR‐Blaster cable close to the IR‐ Receiver window of your set top box. Make sure not to cover the window completely. If you do not know the exact position of your set top box’s IR‐Receiver window, do some functional tests with the remote control, e.g. switch channels. Move the remote control along the front side, until the set top box receives a reliable signal. Attach the IR‐Transmitter at this place. ...
Page 35 Setting up Broadway  Place the IR‐Receiver of the IR‐Blaster cable at a place, where you may conveniently point to with the remote control, when learning the keys. Keep in mind that a short distance of max. 1cm and a position at a right angle with respect to each other will improve the results of the learning process (see image below). ...

PCTV Systems – Broadway HD-S2 Step 4: Connect to power source Caution: you may use Broadway only with the provided power supply unit. Make sure the included power adapter is inserted into the body of the power supply unit. For further details, see chapter The power supply unit.  Connect Broadway to a wall socket using the provided power supply unit.  Broadway starts automatically.  Wait until the Ready LED lights constantly. Broadway is now ready for use. If the light continues to blink, it means that you have not connected Broadway to your home router with an Ethernet cable.
Page 37 Setting up Broadway Step 5: Access Broadway For the setup procedure you can access Broadway from a client device of the following categories: 1. A mobile client device (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch or Android‐based Smartphone) 2. A Macintosh Computer 3. A Windows PC Important: BEFORE accessing Broadway, make sure the router is connected to the Internet and your client device is connected to the local network.  Start the web browser of your client device.  In the URL address field type in: distan.tv Alternatively, you can either type in: the IP Address of your Broadway (to be found on your router’s status page) or the hostname: broadway.box (not supported by every router). Momentarily Broadway does not support IPv6 addresses.  The user interface opens with the login dialogue.  Enter your Administrator Password. The default administrator password is admin. For security reasons, we recommend to change this password as soon as possible. ...
Page 38 PCTV Systems – Broadway HD-S2 Step 6: Follow the instructions of the Broadway Setup Wizard The Broadway Setup Wizard helps you to easily configure your Broadway and run a channel scan. From this point on just follow the instructions of the Wizard. The main setup steps of the Wizard are: Step 6.1: Select the operation mode Depending on how you wish to operate Broadway you can choose between wired and wireless.  Select Operate wired (via cable) if your Broadway is connected via an Ethernet cable to the router of your network. For the initial Broadway setup a wired connection is required.  Now jump to Step 6.2: Select the TV‐source. ...
Page 39 Setting up Broadway  Select Operate wirelessly (WLAN) if your Broadway will be connected wirelessly to the router of your network.  Follow the instructions of the Setup Wizard to successfully connect Broadway to your wireless home network.  When prompted to move Broadway to a new location please do so. Make sure to stay within the wireless network range of your router. You can place Broadway on a flat surface or mount it on the wall. If you decide to mount it on the wall use the delivered mounting kit (including a drilling template). If you decide to place it on a flat surface, make sure to attach the rubber feet as shown in the illustration below.  Connect the TV‐source to your Broadway. AV‐IN with connected set top box and IR‐Blaster support: select this option, when connecting Broadway to a cable TV / satellite set top box for pay‐TV. If you selected only this option, jump to Step 6.4: Set up your IR‐Blaster. 2. AV‐IN with connected analog camera: select this option if you have a security camera and want to watch the video via Broadway. If you selected this option jump to Watch TV. 3. TV tuner with connected TV antenna or cable: select this option if you are using a satellite dish (LNB) / satellite multi switch. If you selected this option jump to Step 6.3: Run a channel scan. Note that if you selected all three options, first you will be led to the channel scan page, and only after the channel scan is completed you will be able to set up the IR‐Blaster. ...

Access Broadway Requirements To access Broadway via the Internet following requirements have to be met:  Make sure Broadway is connected to the Internet. Momentarily Broadway does not support IPv6 addresses.  If you wish to access the TV content streamed by Broadway, ensure the web browser of your client device supports M3u8‐Playlists containing H.264‐ videos with AAC‐sound or Adobe® Flash. Otherwise, the streamed video data cannot be played back. Make sure that on your PC or other mobile client devices (other than Apple products) the Adobe Flash Player is installed.  The Port Forwarding option of your router has to be enabled. By default Broadway is communicating via Port 80. Make sure this communication port is open in your router and firewall configuration. How to… Prepare a USB storage device for usage with Broadway Before you can start recording TV shows or store EPG data on a USB mass storage device (flash‐ or hard‐disc drive) connected to Broadway, you have to prepare the USB drive for the usage with Broadway. Tips Wireless network connection Try to place your Broadway at a central location, so that the signal spreads over a wide area of your home. Try to reduce interferences caused by home appliances, which might work on the same frequency as your Broadway. Make sure the signal strength of the wireless network connection is at least “good”. Try to keep in mind that barriers such as: walls, steel‐reinforced ceilings, glass fronts, etc. can influence “good" wireless network signal strength. We recommend securing your WLAN connection. If you decided to hide the SSID of your network, Broadway will not be able to find your wireless network. GoAhead hereby grants to you a limited world‐wide, royalty‐free, non‐exclusive license to use the GoAhead trade names, trademarks, logos, service marks and product designations posted in Exhibit A (collectively, the "GoAhead Marks") in connection with the activities by you under this Agreement. Additionally, GoAhead grants you a license under the terms above to such GoAhead trademarks as shall be identified at a URL (the "URL") provided by GoAhead. The use by you of GoAhead Marks shall be in accordance with GoAhead’s trademark policies regarding trademark usage as established at the web site designated by the URL, or as otherwise communicated to you by GoAhead at its sole discretion. Signal strength : is the performance indicator of the connection between a computer and a WLAN access point.
