    01_InTrodUCTIon thank you for choosing the X-PLORE.XgX from ZanIer. the X-PLORE.XgX is the first glove in the world to be equipped with a built-in gps satellite receiver. the satellite data is evaluated in the glove and displayed on the screen. this means you always have up-to-date information about your position, speed, altitude, and much more safety-relevant data available at a glance. with the accompanying computer software on the supplied memory stick, you can transfer your ski tour data from the glove to the computer and then evaluate it there. what‘s more, you can even plan a route for your next ski tour on the computer (e.g. with google earth™) and then save it to your X-PLORE.XgX glove. when following a route you have created, the X-PLORE.XgX will display an arrow on the screen to show you the way to your next waypoint.     02_ConTenTs Check the contents to ensure that they are complete.   • Page 5: 03_Connecting The Glove To The Computer

    03_ConneCTIng The X-PLORE.XgX To The CoMpUTer to charge the li-ion battery pack of the X-PLORE.XgX and to transfer data between the glove and the computer, the glove must be regularly connected to the usB port of a computer or a power supply with a usB output. the battery life of the gps with a fully charged battery pack is 20 hours. use the supplied usB cable. first plug the usB type a plug into a free usB port on your computer. open the usB pouch on the X-PLORE.XgX and plug the free end of the cable into the miniusB port on the glove.
  • Page 6 03_ConneCTIng The X-PLORE.xgx To The CoMpUTer the computer will automatically detect the X-PLORE.XgX and immediately begin charging the glove’s battery pack. the computer connection and charging progress are displayed on the glove’s screen.

    04_CoMpUTer sofTware the computer software is provided on the supplied usB memory stick. warnIng! the software is only compatible with computers running windows Xp, windows vIsta and windows 7. you can download the software for newer versions of the windows operating system from the Internet. visit our website to download the latest software version: www.zaniergloves.com. 04.1_Installing the Computer Software plug the supplied memory stick into a free usB port on your computer. the system will usually automatically detect and install the memory stick. a window will open with the contents of the memory stick.
  • Page 8 04_CoMpUTer sofTware select the setup according to your operating system and launch it by double-clicking the respective icon. the program will start automatically and guide you through the installation in a few easy steps. to install the program, you must agree to the end user agreement.
  • Page 9 04_CoMpUTer sofTware select the directory where you would like to install the program. now select the folder name where you would like to save the start menu shortcut.
  • Page 10 04_CoMpUTer sofTware Check the box if you would like to create a shortcut on your desktop. now start the installation by clicking on the install button.
  • Page 11 04_CoMpUTer sofTware Confirm that the drivers have been successfully installed by clicking ok. Check the box if you would like to launch the program after completing the installation and then click fInIsh to complete the installation. the installation is now complete and you can use the X-PLORE.XgX software on your computer.

    04_CoMpUTer sofTware 04.2_Starting the Computer Software open the folder in the start menu where you saved the shortcut for the X-PLORE.XgX software. Click on the program icon. If you created a shortcut for the X-PLORE.XgX software on your desktop, you can start the program by double-clicking the shortcut. the software window will now open on your computer. the software’s interactive help file will provide detailed information about the X-PLORE.XgX computer software and how to use its many features. to open the help file, Click on help topics in the help drop down menu.

    05_X-PLORE.xgx – The glove the following chapter will explain the function and use of the gps unit in the glove (gps sirfstar III). all the functions and settings are controlled by the two buttons on the back of the glove. 05.1_Turning ON/OFF turn the unit on by pressing for 3 seconds. when a display appears on the screen, you can release the button. warnIng! If the unit does not turn on, the battery pack may need charging. Connect the glove to the computer as described in Chapter 3 and try again after charging the battery pack. to turn off the unit, press again for 3 seconds. 05.2_Screen Layout to make the screen easier to read, two different displays are used depending on your speed.

    05_X-PLORE.xgx – The glove 05.2.1_Speed Below 10 km/h at low speeds, the full range of functions is displayed on the screen. this is useful for example when ski-touring, on a ski lift, or taking a break because you can take your time to read all of the information on the screen. the top line displays the name of the next waypoint. If you are not following a route, the word start is displayed. the number of satellites currently acquired is displayed on the right hand side of the screen: satx, where x is the number of satellites. at least 3 satellites must be acquired in order to successfully measure your position. If you are following a route, the arrow points towards the next waypoint. If you are not following a route and are recording your path, the arrow functions as a compass. your current bearing in degrees is displayed below the arrow on the left. the number of the next waypoint is displayed to the right of the arrow. If you are not following a route, 000 is displayed. your speed in the selected unit (km/h or mph) is displayed in the middle of the screen. Below this, the functions selected in setup are displayed alternately. you can pause the scrolling of these functions by pressing the button. to resume the scrolling of the functions, press once again. the number of the current function followed by the current time is displayed at the bottom of the screen.

    05_X-PLORE.xgx – The glove 05.2.2_Speed Above 10 km/h at higher speeds, the users should above all be able to concentrate on their activity and not be distracted by too much data. at speeds greater than 10km/h there are two display options: route off: the display changes to large numbers for better readability route on: the main display with the navigation arrow is shown even at speeds >10km/h as the navigation information has priority...

    05_X-PLORE.xgx – The glove 05.3_Functions In addition to navigating to the next route point and starting point of the stored route, X-PLORE.XgX offers the following functions: • Current speed • Current elevation • maximum elevation • maximum speed • average speed • distance travelled • distance travelled downhill • duration of the current tour • total ascent • total descent 05.4_Setup the X-PLORE.XgX setup allows you to customize the screen and the functions to your personal needs. to access the setup menu, press for 3 seconds. the settings chosen in the setup menu are stored in memory so that you usually only have to perform the setup once even if you turn off the unit. you can exit the setup menu at any time by scrolling with the button to the menu item eXIt and then pressing the button. navigate to the desired menu item with the button and confirm your selection with the button.

    05_X-PLORE.xgx – The glove 05.4.1_Track enter the track menu if you want to record your travel route or save an already recorded route. navigate to the desired menu item with the button and confirm your selection with the button. your selection is indicated by a + next to the function. stop - stops recording the current route. ContInue - Continues recording the current route. reset - Clears the current route from the memory and starts recording a new route. traCk2route - saves the current route in the X-PLORE.XgX gps route memory. warnIng! If you already have a route in the route memory, it will be overwritten with the current route. 05.4.2_Route enter the route menu if you want to use the X-PLORE.XgX gps unit to navigate a saved route. navigate to the desired menu item with the button and confirm your selection with the button. your selection is indicated by a + next to the function. on - turns on the gps route navigation. off - turns off the gps route navigation. reset - the arrow pointing towards the next waypoint on your route is always displayed during route navigation. after activating the reset, the route navigation starts again at the first point in your route, i.e. you are taken straight back to the starting point of your route. wayBaCk - If you want to start the saved route from the end point, activate the wayBaCk function.

    05_X-PLORE.xgx – The glove 05.4.3_Functions In this submenu you can select which functions should be displayed while travelling. these functions will then be displayed alternately at the bottom of the screen as described in section 5.2.1. navigate to the desired menu item with the button and confirm your selection with the button. all selected functions are marked with a plus in front of the function description. after you have selected all the desired functions, scroll down to the menu item eXIt with and press to exit the submenu.

    05_X-PLORE.xgx – The glove 05.4.4_Language the currently selected language is indicated by a plus in front of the language. In this example: english. navigate to the desired language with the button and confirm your selection with the button. your selection is indicated by a + next to the function. after you have made your selection, scroll down to the menu item eXIt with and press to exit the submenu.

    05_X-PLORE.xgx – The glove 05.4.5_Unit the currently selected unit system is indicated by a plus in front of the unit. In this example: imperial. scroll through the available unit systems with and confirm your selection with . a plus will appear in front of the selected unit system. the metric system will display elevation in meters [m], distance in kilometers [km] and speed in kilometers per hour [km/h]. the imperial system will display elevation in feet [ft], distance in miles [m] and speed in miles per hour [mph]. after you have made your selection, scroll down to the menu item eXIt with and press to exit the submenu.

    05_X-PLORE.xgx – The glove 05.4.6_Time your naviglove has an integrated gps receiver that not only receives positional data, but also the exact time. this gps time is given globally and for all satellites as utC time (universal time Coordinated). In order to display the correct time for your location, you must enter the time difference between utC time and the current time for your location. In austria, germany and switzerland, the time difference is +1 in winter and +2 in summer. the time differences for other time zones can be found easily in the Internet, for example under www.worldtimezones.com. the currently selected time difference to utC time is displayed in the top line. In this example, +01. with select if you would like to increase the time difference from utC (menu item up) or decrease (menu item down). a plus will be displayed in front of your current selection. press to change the current time difference to utC. the change is displayed immediately in the top row of the menu. after you have selected the correct time difference to utC, scroll down to the menu item eXIt with and press to exit the submenu.

    05_X-PLORE.xgx – The glove 05.4.7_Contrast to adjust the brightness of the screen to the current lighting conditions, you can change the contrast of the screen to make it lighter or darker. the menu system is the same as for setting the time. first, select whether you want more contrast (up, darker screen) or less contrast (down, brighter screen). then press the button repeatedly until the screen is set to the desired contrast. after you have set the screen to the desired contrast, scroll down to the menu item eXIt with and press to exit the submenu.

    05_X-PLORE.xgx – The glove 05.5_Changing the Battery the li-ion battery pack integrated in the glove can be recharged an average of 500 times. to recharge the unit, connect the supplied usB cable to the glove and the computer as described in section 3. If at some point the battery pack should fail to hold a charge, or if the battery pack is damaged in a fall, you can replace it with a new one. to do this, simply open the battery pouch on the glove and disconnect the plug at the back of the pouch from the battery pack so that it can be easily removed. warnIng! disconnecting the battery pack can cause data saved on the glove to be lost. we recommend downloading all of the glove data to the computer beforehand. then connect the new battery pack to the plug and place it back in the battery pouch. warnIng! the new battery pack should first be fully charged before activating the device again.
