SCOTTY DA-42 MPP Rack 2 System Description 2.1 The SCOTTY DA-42 MPP System The SCOTTY Group and Diamond Airborne Sensing present a versatile and efficient surveillance solution: the SCOTTY/Diamond DA42 Multi-Purpose Platform (MPP). This twin-turboprop has been outfitted with an observation camera and a beyond line-of-sight satcom link.
This chapter outlines the installed components and their connections. If spare parts are required, these can be ordered by using the appropriate SCOTTY part number as listed below in the diagrams; the part numbers are in the format “SDxxxxxxx”. Figure 2 shows an overview of all subsystems as outlined in the previous chapter.

It receives the video from the video subsystem, gets the aircraft position from the IRS subsystem, and controls the satellite antenna.

SCOTTY DA-42 MPP Rack 3.2 Mechanical Drawings This chapter shows the mechanical drawings of the SCOTTY SATCOM Rack. For mechanical drawings of the other components, refer to the documentation of the corresponding equipment. Figure 7 displays the outline of the rack.
The field System shows the time and date of the transceiver. Flight Information displays the current IRS information, as received by the transceiver from the SCOTTY IRS system. Please note that the Heading displayed is the true heading, not the magnetic heading.

In case the configuration has been damaged, follow these directions. 1. Start the SCOTTY EMS HSD software and open the Terminal window. See chapter 4.1 “EMSHSD SW” for details. Alternatively, use a terminal emulation program like HyperTerm with 19200 Baud, 8N1 2.

The INMARSAT provider defines the forward ID for the system. It is coded into a hardware plug, accessible through a hatch on the right side of the SATCOM Rack. Contact SCOTTY to provide a new plug when the forward ID needs to be changed.
2. In case of doubt, attach the SCOTTY calibration kit and use the IRS Support software to directly read the IRS data. This method provides access to the magnetic heading of the IRS system, which can be directly compared to the aircraft’s magnetic heading.
SCOTTY DA-42 MPP Rack 6.2 Preparations The “SCOTTY IRS Calibration Kit”, part number SD203652A, is required. 1. Disconnect the IRS system from the SCOTTY SATCOM Rack, connector J17 (see Figure 8 for details). 2. Connect the “SCOTTY IRS System Breakout Cable”, part number SD205848A, to the SCOTTY SATCOM Rack, connector J17, and to the cable towards the IRS system.
SCOTTY DA-42 MPP Rack 6.3 Display Current IRS Data Open the “Chelton Antenna Support“ software. Select “Display SRU and MSU navigation data” and press “Next”. In the Connection dialog, select the “COM” port where the SRU is connected to the PC (see chapter 6.2 “Preparations”). Select “Maintenance Port on SRU- 7200”.
SCOTTY DA-42 MPP Rack 6.4 Calibration Procedure Before starting the calibration procedure, the aircraft shall be put into a state similar to flight conditions: 1. Let the engines run 2. Activate strobe and position lights 3. Move the aircraft to a place with low magnetic disturbance. Especially avoid steel reinforced concrete.

SCOTTY DA-42 MPP Rack Press “Start counter-clockwise rotation” and perform a counter-clockwise 360° circle with the aircraft. When the circle has been completed, press “Stop counter-clockwise rotation”. On successful compass swing, press “Yes” to upload the data to the SRU.
