    Release 1.2 Mounting The DS-8124/DS-8124c may be mounted on any flat surface, such as a shelf, or in a rack. Before you start installing the access switch, make sure you can provide the right operating environment, including power requirements, sufficient physical space, and proximity to other network devices that are to be connected.

    Category 5 cable is required; for 10BASE-TX, Category 3,4, or 5 cable can be used. The RJ-45 ports on the DS-8124/DS-8124c modules support automatic MDI/MDI-X operation, so you can use standard straight-through twisted-pair cables to connect to any other network device (PCs, servers, switches, routers, or hubs).

    Pin Number Assignment Because the ports on the DS-8124/DS-8124c support automatic MDI/MDI-X operation, you can use straight-through cables for all network connections to PCs or servers, or to other switches or hubs.
