  • Page 25: Cleaning The Hearing Aid

Cleaning the hearing aid Never wash your hearing aid with water, cleaning solu- tions or other liquids. In- stead, clean your hearing aid with a dry soft cloth after use. When the hearing aid is not in use, it is a good idea to leave the battery drawer open, so as to ventilate the hearing aid and allow it to dry.
  • Page 26 If the élan ear-set tubing is plugged, it must be cleaned. Hold the earhook with two fingers while holding the hearing aid with the opposite hand. Lift off the plugged trimmed élan ear-set in a slanting, backward move- ment. Then clear the opening with the wax removing tool.

  • Page 30: Trimming The Élan Ear-Set

Trimming the élan ear-set Before you can use the élan ear-set with Flash élan (Custom), it must be trimmed in three places. This trim- ming can be complicated if you do not have the neces- sary experience or the correct tool. Therefore, we rec- ommend that you and your hearing care professional go through the following instructions together.
  • Page 31 Trimming the élan ear-set There are three steps to trimming the élan ear-set: 1. Cut off the first retention grip. To fit a Custom élan ear-piece, there should only re- main one retention grip on the ear-set. Therefore, re- move the first retention grip with a pair of sharp scis- sors, cutting nippers or other suitable tool.
  • Page 32 2. Cut off the lock. As the lock (i.e. the small loop) is not used for your Cus- tom élan, you must cut it off. This must be done in such a way that the lock is completely removed and the sur- face is smooth.
  • Page 33 3. Trim the anchor. For your Custom élan you only need a small piece of the anchor. Trim the anchor with a pair of sharp scissors, cut- ting nippers or other suitable tool so that there is only ap- proximately 2 mm left. The remaining 2 mm of the an- chor helps to keep the élan ear-set firmly secured in the ear-piece.
  • Page 34: Assembling A Custom Élan

Assembling a Custom élan After the élan ear-set has been trimmed, you can con- nect the trimmed élan ear-set to the ear-piece. Make sure that both the trimmed élan ear-set and the ear- piece are for the same ear, e.g. for the left ear. There are three steps to assembling the two parts.
  • Page 35 2. Use your fingernail to press the trimmed élan ear- set into place in the ear-piece. The trimmed élan ear-set is positioned correctly when a click has been felt and it cannot be pushed in any further. 3. It is important to ensure that the two parts are assembled correctly.
  • Page 36: Caring For Your Hearing Aid

Caring for your hearing aid With proper care, your hearing aid will give you years of reliable service. Here are some things you can do to prolong the life of your hearing aid: • To ensure the proper shape of the élan ear-set, be careful not to twist or squeeze it out of shape when your Flash élan (Custom) hearing aid is placed in the case.
  • Page 37 • Treat your hearing aid as the valuable object it is: with care. When it is not in use, keep it in its case in a cool, dry location where it cannot be reached by children or pets. • Replace the trimmed élan ear-set, as required. So, if it becomes slack, stiff, yellow, cracked or the like, it must be replaced.
  • Page 38 Radiation from, for example, room surveillance equipment, burglar alarms and cellular telephones is weaker and will not damage your hearing aid. • Widex hearing aids are not certified for use in mines or other areas with explosive gases.
  • Page 39: Good Advice

Good advice • The use of hearing aids increases the risk of accu- mulation of earwax. Contact your physician/ENT doctor if you suspect that a plug of earwax has ac- cumulated in your ear. Earwax may not only reduce your own hearing but also the effect of the hearing aid considerably.
  • Page 40 • The hearing aid is made of modern non-allergenic materials. Still, in rare cases skin irritation can oc- cur. If you notice skin irritation in or around your ear or ear canal, contact your hearing care profes- sional. • Please be aware that the use of any type of hearing aid/ear-piece may involve a slightly increased risk of infection in the ear canal.
  • Page 41: Accessories

Accessories Audio input Your Flash hearing aid can be furnished with an audio shoe. This allows direct connection to different kinds of accessories (FM and CROS/Bi-CROS systems), as well as external audio equipment (radio, TV, etc.). In this way the sound from, for example, a radio or a speaker pro- vided with an FM microphone can be sent directly into your hearing aid.

  • Page 43 Important: If your hearing aid is connected to equip- ment which is connected to the electrical mains, this equipment must meet the safety requirements stated in the international standard IEC 60065. Do not connect the hearing aid to sockets that are la- belled with one or more of the following symbols: For more information on the use of audio input consult your hearing care professional.
