After installing the IntelliKeys USB software on your computer, the IntelliKeys USB keyboard can be plugged directly into your computer’s USB port or a USB hub. IntelliKeys USB can be connected to either a Windows or a Macintosh computer system.
About This User’s Guide This User’s Guide is an important part of the IntelliKeys USB product. It provides information that will get you started using the program, show you how to use all the features, and how to select options and customize settings for individual students.
An Electronic Copy of IntelliKeys USB Documentation An electronic version of the IntelliKeys USB product documentation is contained on the IntelliKeys USB CD. It is stored as PDF files in a folder labeled Documentation, which can be opened when you insert the CD and double-click the folder.

Tutorial Part 1 – Connecting IntelliKeys USB Make sure the IntelliKeys USB software has been installed on your computer before you Caution connect your IntelliKeys USB keyboard to the computer. Using the USB Icon In addition to providing access to the IntelliKeys USB and IntelliSwitch Control Panel, the USB icon located in the taskbar of your computer also contains a few interesting new features designed to help make your experience as a user more efficient and trouble-free.

Now insert the Setup USB Overlay again and select Repeat ON. Slowing Down Response Rate Some IntelliKeys USB users press unwanted keys on the way to selecting a desired letter. The Response Rate feature can adjust the time (not the pressure) required to press on a key before it is activated.

The default Response Rate is 15. This is the fastest response rate. To change the Response Rate, remove the QWERTY USB Overlay. Slide the Setup USB Overlay onto IntelliKeys USB. Press Response Rate. Applications tab. Clicking “Attach/Edit overlays for “[active application]”...” opens the IntelliKeys USB Control Panel, and displays the Applications tab so that you can attach overlays to the current active application. If that application is not in the list of applications, it is automatically added when you attach an overlay.

Chapter 5 – Working with Overlays and Overlay Maker 3 Working with Overlay Files in the Overlays Folder When IntelliKeys USB is installed on your computer, it creates an ITools folder (Windows) or an IntelliTools folder (Macintosh) on your main hard drive.
Print folder – contains a version of the overlay that can be printed using IntelliTools’ Overlay Maker or Overlay Maker 3. Since the printable copies do not have bar codes that can be read by the IntelliKeys USB Keyboard, you will have to send the electronic version of the overlay to the keyboard before using the printed copy.
Note useful new Applications Double-click the IntelliKeys USB folder; inside you will find the tab and associated Overlays for Editing folder. Double-click this folder to view the overlay Application overlays, files inside. see Chapter 4.
Adobe Reader version 6 and 7 for Windows and Macintosh. To use the overlay, open a PDF document in Adobe Reader and insert the Adobe Reader overlay in your IntelliKeys USB. Press the Scroll Down and Scroll Up keys to scroll through the document. Press the Read Page button to begin reading the page.
Click the IntelliKeys USB icon that is displayed on your taskbar. The taskbar displays a group of icons and the time. It is typically positioned on the lower edge of the screen. Click on the Open IntelliKeys USB and IntelliSwitch Control Panel pop up menu that appears.

IntelliKeys USB saves these user preferences according to a user’s name and an associated group name. IntelliKeys USB comes with a user group named Guest. If you don’t create additional groups of users, your selections will be entered automatically in the Guest group.

Shift is the most commonly used modifier key. Other Modifier keys include Control, Alt, Command and Option. IntelliKeys USB users can select one of three Shift Key Action options to send the appropriate keystroke information to any program. These options allow the user to press the required keys sequentially rather than simultaneously.
Repeat Features portion of the control panel Repeat When Repeat is selected, IntelliKeys USB repeats a keystroke entry until the user stops pressing that key. Selecting Repeat Click the Repeat check box to select or deselect this option. A check mark in the box indicates that this feature is active.
Click Test to hear the current sound volume without having to press a key on IntelliKeys USB. Using Additional Features IntelliKeys USB has a useful word processing feature that a user can select, Smart Typing, and two other IntelliKeys USB features that the user can modify—Mouse Speed and Data Send Rate.

The Mouse Speed default setting is 15. Data Send Rate The Data Send Rate setting can be useful for those using IntelliKeys USB in conjunction with a custom overlay that assigns a single key a multitask function, such as typing a word or a phrase. This feature controls the pace at which IntelliKeys USB sends data to your computer.
Using Testing This portion of the control panel provides the user with a way to troubleshoot the IntelliKeys USB ability to type using the Standard Overlays. Testing portion of the control panel Text Entry The Text entry area allows the user to type in text for troubleshooting purposes.
