a r c w i l l s t a r t s t r o n g and d i e away a s t h e a l t e r -
n a t o r - s l o w s down.
I t w i l l b e n o t i c e a b l e a t high
amp s e t t i n g s .
The b e l t should b e t i g h t and have
v e r y l i t t l e "give" when checked by hand a f t e r r e -
moving t h e b e l t s c r e e n .

Caution
-
Replace s c r e e n b e f o r e s t a r t i n g t h e
w e l d e r engine.
Note
-
The b e l t w i l l burn (melt) and be r u i n e d
i f allowed t o s l i p f o r any l e n g t h of time.
Pulle-; Alignment and B e l t Tension
I f b e l t b r e a k s , t u r n s o v e r o r jumps o u t of t h e
grooves a f t e r a s h o r t p e r i o d of time, o r does n o t
l a s t when r e p l a c e d , THERE IS SO?!ETHING W R O N G WITH
EITHER THE ALIGWENT O R THE TENSION OF THE BELT.
I t w i l l do no good t o r e p l a c e t h e b e l t w i t h o u t
c o r r e c t i n g t h e problem.

The b e l t should b e checked f o r t i g h t n e s s a f t e r a
few h o u r s of o p e r a t i o n of a new machine.
B e l t Adjustment
Remove b e l t s c r e e n (Fig. 1-1).
CAUTION:
Replace
s c r e e n b e f o r e s t a r t i n g t h e w e l d e r engine.
Loosen
t h e n u t l o c a t e d between t h e b e l t and t h e b e l t
t e n s i o n h o l e
(Fig.
1-2).
I n s e r t a s c r e w d r i v e r
through t h e b e l t t e n s i o n h o l e and p r y up on t h e
s p a c e r behind t h e n u t p r e v i o u s l y loosened.
While
m a i n t a i n i n g t e n s i o n t i g h t e n t h e n u t loosened above.
Check t h e p u l l e y a l i g n m e n t , making s u r e t h e t o p
and bcttom p u l l e y s a r e p a r a l l e l and s t r a i g h t .
Check t h e b e l t t e n s i o n .
The b e l t should b e
t i g h t s o t h a t t h e r e is v e r y l i t t l e g i v e when
f l e x e d by hand.
