Troubleshooting

Table 8-1 covers some common terminal problems and corrective actions to take.
Symptom
Terminal does not power on
or shuts off suddenly.
Cannot see characters on
display.
Touchscreen not working.
Optional scanner does not
operate.

Table 8-1. Terminal Problems
Possible Cause
Power switch on back of
terminal is in the Off position.
Power cable not connected or
unplugged.
If the terminal is powered by a
vehicle battery, the vehicle
battery is depleted.
Terminal not powered on
(Power LED is off).
Screen is too bright/dark.
Display not adjusted properly. Select Display in the Control Panel
The terminal is in Suspend
mode (indicated by a yellow
Power LED).
Display not properly
calibrated.
Scanner is not properly
connected to the terminal.
Action
Turn the power switch on.
Connect power cable to power cable
portion underside of terminal. Turn
the power switch on, then press the
Suspend Button to boot up the
terminal.
Replace or charge the vehicle
battery.
Turn the power switch on.
Press the Suspend Button.
Adjust the brightness; see
the Brightness on page 4-16.
settings and adjust the display.
Press the Suspend Button to turn on
the terminal.
Recalibrate the screen through the
Control Panel Calibration utility. If
problem continues, contact Symbol
Support Center. See Symbol
Support Center on page ix.
Connect the scanner to the COM1
port and power up the terminal. If the
problem continues, refer to the
scanner Quick Reference Guide.
