4b) 12v Car Battery J4 is used for the main 12V supply to the Blue Window, highlighted in Figure 4. Use the second included in-line fuse to fuse the 12V line. The fused 12V connection should be made directly to the 12V battery or to some always-on point in the 12V system.
  • Page 11: C) Tachometer Signal Input

M A N U A L 4c) Tachometer Signal Input In order to display an RPM value, the Blue Window must have an RPM signal hooked up, which is located on J1 (shown in Figure 5). The simplest way to do this is to connect one side of the included magnetic pickup switch to GND and the other side to TCH (polarity does not matter).
  • Page 12 M A N U A L Figure 6 is an example installation of the magnetic pickup and two magnets mounted using JB Weld. By default the Blue Window needs 2 poles per revolution (2 magnets). This matches many car tachometers. However, if a different number is used, then the software can be customized to match.
  • Page 13: D) Temperature Sensor Input

4d) Temperature Sensor Input The Temperature Sensor connects to J16 (shown in Figure 7) on the Blue Window. The sensor itself should be placed on a battery. This can be done with epoxy, such as JB Weld (which can be purchased at any hardware store), as shown in Figure 8.
  • Page 14: E) Video Output

M A N U A L 4e) Video Output The composite video output of the Blue Window is accessed through J3, as shown in Figure 9. This can be fed to any composite video display including many in-dash DVD players. With many models you can even feed the composite video to the back-up camera input.

M A N U A L Section 6. Usage When properly installed the Blue Window displays the status (Voltage, Current, RPM & Battery Capacity) of your Electric Vehicle. Figure 11 is an example of what you see on a DVD player display.
  • Page 19: Capacity Algorithm

Window first powers up, it sets the capacity to 50% so it will not read correctly until after the first complete charge. Subsequent charges must reach a voltage of 171 volts in order to reset the Blue Window to fully charge. The source code for the Blue Window is licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.
