Configuring a Bandwidth Profile

To prevent one user or group from using excessive inbound or outbound bandwidth, you can
define a bandwidth profile to set a minimum and maximum bandwidth for an individual or group.
You can apply a defined profile in an inbound or outbound firewall rule to limit specific protocols
or all traffic (see
"Using Rules to Block or Allow Specific Kinds of Traffic" on page
When a new inbound or outbound connection is established, the DGFV338 searches for a firewall
rule that applies to the connection. If an applicable rule specifies a bandwidth profile, then the
DGFV338 will enforce the bandwidth limits of the profile. If the bandwidth profile is a Class type,
the bandwidth limits will apply to the aggregate of all connections corresponding to the same
firewall rule. If the bandwidth profile is an Individual type, the bandwidth limits will apply
individually to each connection, based on the source IP address.
As an example, consider a firewall rule that applies to outbound FTP traffic and includes an
outbound bandwidth profile that specifies a maximum bandwidth of 100 Kbps. If the bandwidth
profile type is Group, then all outbound FTP connections together are limited to 100 Kbps. In this
case, three FTP users would be limited to a combined bandwidth of 100 Kbps. If the bandwidth
profile type is Individual, then each outbound FTP connection is limited to 100 Kbps. In this case,
three FTP users would each be limited to 100 Kbps, and the total outbound FTP bandwidth would
be 300 Kbps.
