OPERATION All Frontier transmitters send input signals at specific intervals (typically 30 or 60 seconds) and are received by the Model RUT-G directly or through Frontier Model RR repeaters. They are then translated into the protocol desired, de- pending on the plug-in key card selected.

POINT SET-UP CONFIGURATION LON point mapping and SNVT selection are done through a Frontier LNS plug-in. Each Frontier transmitter address and point number is mapped to one of 40 NVOs or NVIs per protocol key and selectable SNVTs. An XIF file and LNS plug-in is included with each LON key.

INSTALLING A CONTROL MODULE LON KEY Each LON-KEY-◊ control module can support up to 40 network variables (NVs). The Frontier Gateway can support up to three control modules for 120 NVs. As the application expands, control modules can be field-installed to meet the demand.

Configuration Properties (CPs). It is for this reason that the Kele Gateway LNS plug-in was developed. The built-in support for the Ethernet web server will only allow changes to the CPs that affect the Frontier radios, and cannot access the LON-KEY-◊ side of the device. The web server will not support changeable SNVT types or SNVT format- ting.

Frontier transmitter ID number, the transmitter or receiver’s point number on a Frontier unit, and the facility code. Transmitter ID can range from 1 to 65,000. A Frontier field receiver has no Tx ID but is programmed with a Tx ID ref- erence in order for it to respond to its related transmitters.

DE-REGISTERING THE FRONTIER PLUG-IN If the Frontier Plug-in is no longer needed on the installed computer, it is very important to de-register the plug-in from the Windows registry before removing the file from the computer. If this is not done, a warning message may be displayed each time the network management tool is started.
Resource files for the Configuration Properties (CPs) are located in the plug-in directory under "Types." By default, this is "C:\Program Files\Frontier Plug-in\Types". The resource files have been created for use with LNS-based sys- tems and may not be compatible with all LON-based systems. In factory preprogrammed units, they may not be re- quired.

4. 3. Transmit Time Interval. A value of "30" has been entered. If the Frontier Gateway has not received an updated value from the network within this time period of 30 seconds, the Gateway will re-transmit the last known val- 4.

Once the "Download" button is clicked, the Frontier Gateway will configure itself to use the new values for the Frontier field devices. At this time, the "Download" button will disappear (Figure 13). Note also that the log window continues in data flow.

The NVO screen (Figure 14A) is used for output network variables (outputs to the network). The NV value is received by the Frontier Gateway from a Frontier field transmitter. The values entered on this screen must be related to the programmed targeted field transmitter.

5. Transmitter Low Value Limit. This value is "5," which is what the Frontier Gateway expects to see as its low- est value from the Frontier field transmitter. Refer to Table 2 for more information on limits.

LON INTERFACE KEY NVO SCREEN (CONTINUED) The Facility Code screen (Figure 15) is used to enter the Frontier facility code for the complete Frontier system. This code is global to all Frontier transmitters, receivers, repeaters, and the Gateway. All Frontier transmitters, receivers, repeaters, and the Gateway must have the same facility code or communication between devices will not take place.

NVI[x] SETUP REQUIRED. This is an NVI without a Frontier Tx ID. The indicated NVI will not be operational but will not affect any other NVIs.This is a common status if some Frontier NVs are not used (not set up).
The nvoStatus displays the object’s condition as ones and zeros with a "1" being active. No identifying text is included. The Kele Frontier LNS Plug-in aids in the language, deciphering objects, and of the ones and zeros of the nvoStatus as shown below.
The Frontier Gateway supports changeable SNVT types. Not all types are acceptable. Only those SNVT types shown in the "Select SNVT Type" window are supported by the Frontier Gateway. Refer to Table 1 for a listing of the supported SNVT types. With the exception of the SNVT switch, no structured-type SNVTs are supported. SNVTs with a byte length of one to four bytes are used (character, integer, and float).

If no selection is made, the default format will be used (typically the second format listed). Like the SNVT type selection, the format is not active at this time. Current SNVT Type: This field displays the current (active) SNVT type being used by the Frontier Gateway for the displayed NV.

RS232/485 INTERFACE KEY ASSIGNMENT OF THE RS485 DEVICE ADDRESS - DIP SWITCH “NODE ADDRESS” The RS485 requires that each device on the network has a device address. To assign the device address for the Gate- way, use DIP Switch "Node Address" on top of the RS485 control module. Allowable addresses are from 1 to 255. Select an appropriate and available address for the network to which the Gateway will be installed (see Table 8).
