General Description The MS5 Pannerama is an all analog signal generator and modifier. The MS5 can be used for a variety of applications. It provides subsonic and audio frequency modulation to analog synthesizer modulation inputs. It can also provide flexible ring modulation for metallic and inharmonic sounds.
The jack field provides a variety of signal routing options as described in this section. Figure 2: MS5 Pannerama Functional Diagram With no external modulation signal connected, the internal VCO signal modulates both the Ring Modulator (RM) and the Stereo Panner.
Low frequency. The high and medium are audio range frequencies. The low and very low are subsonic frequency ranges. VCO waveform selection of Triangle, Sine, Square, and Waveform Sawtooth. The Sawtooth waveform is most accurate in the audio frequency ranges. Copyright 2011 Monde Synthesizer Inc.
100k ohms. This input interacts with CV level control. RM Mod In The Ring modulator modulation input - 0 to 10 volts, for example a Low Frequency Oscillator (LFO) or VCO signal. Copyright 2011 Monde Synthesizer Inc.

Right Out The Right channel output – line level which can be connected to a mixer or amplifier. Power An AC power input jack - located on rear panel. Use only the provided 12VAC transformer pack. Copyright 2011 Monde Synthesizer Inc.
Figure 4 depicts the connections used with a guitar and expression pedal. You can also use front panel control CV/Freq control instead of an expression pedal. Either method allows you to vary the frequency of panning or of the ring modulator carrier, or both. Copyright 2011 Monde Synthesizer Inc.
Analog Synthesizer Figure 5: Analog synthesizer connections Figure 5 depicts some of the many ways to connect the MS5 Pannerama to an analog synthesizer. All of the inputs are buffered with gain controls and all of the outputs are current limited. Feel free to experiment. You can also use the MS5 Pannerama with digital synthesizers and drum machines albeit without the flexibility that analog instruments provide.
Figure 6: Tremolo application Figure 6 depicts the connections for tremolo. Subsonic modulation frequencies should be used for tremolo. You can also use an expression pedal as shown in Figure 4 to vary the tremolo rate. Copyright 2011 Monde Synthesizer Inc.
VCO or LFO to the Ring Mod modulation input. Typically ring modulation is done with audio frequency modulators. Different modulation waveform selections change the sound significantly. Sine and Triangle wave modulation tend to sound less aggressive than Square and Saw wave modulation. Copyright 2011 Monde Synthesizer Inc.
You can also autopan with audio range modulation. Different waveform selections change the sound significantly. Sine wave modulation sounds smooth and is especially good at very low frequencies. Square wave modulation is very choppy. Copyright 2011 Monde Synthesizer Inc.
Mod, or to the Ring Mod modulation input, or to both. Typically, autopanning is done with subsonic modulation and ring modulation is done with audio frequency modulation. With the MS5 Pannerama, there are no limitations – experiment. Modulating both the ring modulator and the stereo panner at audio frequencies effectively gives you three simultaneous ring modulators.
