  • Page 3 The 460ETCMRS Gateway connects an Allen Bradley PLC to a Modbus RTU Master. By following this guide, you will be able to configure the 460ETCMRS Gateway for basic operation. You will set the device’s net- work settings and parameters to the proper configuration for initial operation and physically place the de- vice in your network.

    460ETCMRS Port Connections The factory default port settings on the 460ETCMRS gateway are for Port 0 (T-strip) to be set for RS485 including power (Pin 5). Port 1 (DB9) is set to RS232 by default. If these default port are not compatible with your equipment they can be configured differently. For spe- cific jumper settings refer to the end of this manual, appendix A.

    460ETCMRS Accessing the Main Page Before you can configure the 460ETCMRS gateway itself you must configure the network settings to connect the gateway. The following steps will connect the gateway properly. 1) Connect a 7-30 VDC power source to the device. The unit can be powered through the T-strip.

    460 Gateway Device Line 460ETCMRS Error: Main Page Does Not Launch If the main page does not launch the IP Address is most likely incorrect. Correct the IP Address and try again. If you do not know the IP Address use the following procedure: 1) Open an MS-DOS Command Prompt.
  • Page 8 460 Gateway Device Line 460ETCMRS Modbus RTU Slave Settings Now that the device is on the network you will configure the device settings. 1) If you would like to change the device description, on the main page, click Edit in the Description row.
  • Page 9 460 Gateway Device Line 460ETCMRS Modbus Internal Device Settings 1) In the Server Module Configuration row click Edit. 2) The Modbus registers are configured as: Read/Write Registers moving data from Modbus RTU Slave devices to Ethernet/IP Tag Servers: 401-800 Read Registers moving data from Ethernet/IP Tag Servers to Modbus TCP Clients: 1-400 3) Click the Main Page button.

  • Page 11 460 Gateway Device Line 460ETCMRS 4) Enter a unique label for the device so that it is easily distinguishable on your network. 5) In the Server IP Address enter the IP Address that corresponds to your Ethernet/IP Tag Server. 6) Select the type of PLC you are using. (Logix, SLC505/MicroLogix, or PLC5E) 7) Enter a value for the CPU Slot of the PLC.
  • Page 12 460 Gateway Device Line 460ETCMRS 10) Specify the correct Data Length for each data type being used. 11) When all required parameters are entered click Save. To delete the entire Slave device click Clear. To return to the main page and abandon all changes click Cancel.

  • Page 14 1) On the main page click on the Status and Summary button located on the left hand side of the screen. 2) The 460ETCMRS Device Summary and Status page will be shown. 3) The device drop down menu allows you to switch between the different devices and display the device statuses.

    460 Gateway Device Line 460ETCMRS Configuring Multiple Devices If you are configuring multiple devices the same way, you can repeat the configuration by saving your work into a file. To do so, follow these steps. 1) From the main page click the Utilities button.

    3) Connect an Ethernet cable between your Ethernet switch/router and the network port on the 460 ETCMRS Gateway. 4) Attach the serial connection from the Modbus RTU device to the 460ETCMRS Gateway. 5) Connect the 7-30 VDC power source to the device via the T-strip.

    460 Gateway Device Line 460ETCMRS Jumper Configurations To change port settings on the 460 EDX Gateway use the following steps: 1) No cables should be connected to the Gateway unit. If this unit has been in use and you are making a change, disconnect the power cable and any communications cables from the gateway unit.
