    Product Overview Features and Benefits The Avocent Emerge® EMS series of media streaming products empower you to distribute your analog video and stereo sound to many remote destinations. Using standard UTP structured cabling, you can deliver very high video resolutions to multiple display screens located up to 1000 feet (600 feet for EMS1000P models) away from the source PC system.

    Emerge EMS Installer/User Guide Emerge EMS1000MP units are designed to provide potentially enormous expansion possibilities from the outset. Each EMS1000MP-T transmitter is capable of directly feeding up to four EMS1000MP-R receivers. Each receiver supports two remote screen and speakers sets, but additionally can also drive a further three receivers and their respective screens/speakers.

    Chapter 1: Product Overview Further Expansion Transmitter Cascading As mentioned earlier, the EMS1000P and VIDEO STANDARD EMS1000MP-T transmitters are both capable LINKS AUDIO of supporting additional transmitter (and their Transmitter subsequent receiver) units. This is achieved using the video and audio out ports to provide the inputs into the next transmitter unit, and so on.

    Test AC outlets at the computer and monitor for proper polarity and grounding. • Do not use a 2-wire extension cord in any Avocent product configuration. • If you use a power extension cord with the Emerge units, make sure the total ampere rating of the devices plugged into the extension cord do not exceed the cord’s ampere rating.

    C HAP TER Installation Locations Please consider the following important points when planning the positions of your Emerge EMS units: • Take care not to exceed the maximum link cable lengths (please refer to the section Making Cascade Connections). • Ensure that the transmitters are as close as possible to the source PC system and the receivers are similarly close to the display units.

    C HAP TER Operations In operation, the Emerge EMS units are designed to be completely transparent - high quality video and audio from the source PC system are played as normal, the only difference is that they are now being seen and heard up to 1000 feet away (600 feet maximum for EMS1000P models). Indicators All Emerge EMS units are equipped with two indicators to confirm operation and, if necessary, assist with quick troubleshooting of potential problems.

    Emerge EMS Installer/User Guide Adjustments Video signals are susceptible to the effects of long distance cables and for this reason, every Emerge EMS receiver includes brightness and sharpness adjustment dials. Additionally, the Emerge EMS1000MP-R receivers are also equipped with two extra dials to eliminate the effects of color skew within the video image.

    Chapter 3: Operations Skew Compensation Adjustments (Emerge EMS1000MP-R Receivers Only) The twisted pair cabling used to link the Emerge EMS units consists of four pairs of wires per cable. Three of these pairs are used to convey the red, green and blue video signals. Due to slight differences in twist rate between the wire pairs, the red, green and blue video signals may not arrive at precisely the same time.
