Resetting to the default settings
Your NEX-5000 Pedal Tuner remembers the Calibrate and Flat Tune
settings from its previous use — even with the power off. To reset the
tuner to the default settings, with the Power Off (nothing plugged into the
Input Jack), press and hold the Flat Tune & Calibrate buttons while you
Power On (insert a ¼-inch plug into the Input Jack). Continue pressing the
Flat Tune & Calibrate buttons for at least three seconds. The pedal tuner
will be reset to the default state of A=440 Hz and zero flat tune, and the
In-Tune LED will flash once per second.
Some Stringed Instrument Tuning Tips

Pluck one string at a time.
♦
Pluck the instrument once per second to keep the note "fresh" while you
are tuning. Notes go noticeably flat a second or two after being plucked.
If tuning a higher-pitched instrument (such as a mandolin), pluck a little
faster; for a lower-pitched instrument (such as a bass), pluck slower.

Do not pluck loudly. Generally light to medium volumes provide purer tones
that are easier for tuners to analyze.

Pluck the strings with the flesh of the thumb. Fingernails and flat picks add
overtones and slow the tuning process.

Tune from a pitch that is flat up to the pitch you desire. This procedure
removes any slack in the gears of the instrument's tuning heads. If you
tune from sharp to in tune, the gears will slip as you play, and the
instrument will go flat after a few minutes of playing.

If you have difficulty getting a note to register on the tuner, touch the other
strings lightly to stop their sympathetic vibrations.

Use good strings. Old strings lose their uniformity and do not vibrate
evenly. Remember to stretch your new strings out; new strings stretch flat
as you play.

All sources of friction cause tuning problems. For example, if the slot in an
instrument's nut is too tight, the string will be pulled flat as it is played. A
tight nut (or capo) will cause the string's pitch to change in steps rather
than evenly.

Avoid pressure on the instrument while tuning. Even moderate pressure on the
neck of a guitar will cause a noticeable change in pitch. Also, press the strings
straight down to the fingerboard. Bending the strings sideways is very com-
mon, especially on difficult chords, but causes the strings to be pulled sharp.
Powering your NexFX Pedal
The unit turns on when a ¼-inch plug is inserted into the Input. NexFX
Pedals can be powered by a 9-volt battery or a Sabine NexFX 9-volt Power
Supply. In addition, there is a 9-volt power Input and Output, allowing all
Sabine pedals (and most others) to be powered by just one Sabine NEX-
Power Adapter. And battery changing is quick and easy: lift the cover off with
a squeeze, pop a new battery in and drop the cover back with a snap.

To insert or replace battery, place palm over rubber stomp pad with thumb
on left release button and middle finger on right releases button. Push in with
both fingers, lift off from thumb side. Connect battery to battery terminal and
place into recessed area.
To replace cover, align the right-side release button
with the hole on the right side of the cover. Bring the left
side down slowly, aligning the cover spring with the
cover spring post. Then, while holding left-side release
button in slightly, lower the left side of the cover until
the left-side release button catches.

NexFX Power Adapter & Patch Cords
Every NexFX Pedal comes with a FREE Power Patch Cord for use with the
Sabine NexFX 9-volt Power Supply. SAVE THIS CORD (NEX-Power sold
separately; Power Patch Cords also available separately). Using the Power
Patch Cord, you can connect up to 6 NexFX pedals using one NexFX Power
Adapter. Refer to the diagram for connection instructions. See illustration at
right.
NOTE: Either Sabine Power Jack can be used for Power Input or Power
Output.
Powering Non-Sabine Pedals with NEX-
POWER
Other Pedals also can be run from the Sabine NexFX 9-volt Power Supply
patched through a Sabine pedal, but you must read your operating guide for
any non-Sabine pedal to be sure that the power requirements are compatible
(please don't toast your non-Sabine pedal). A compatible non-Sabine pedal
must have the following power requirements:
