WARNING: Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death WARNING or serious injury. 1.2 Equipment Safety Alert CAUTION: Indicates a situation which can damage or adversely affect the GT-1000A or CAUTION associated equipment. 1.3 Notes Notes are denoted and used as follows: NOTE: Highlights or amplifies an essential operating or maintenance procedure, practice, condition or statement.
1.5 Electrical Safety Precautions WARNING An uninterruptible safety earth ground must be provided from the main power source to the GT-1000A. Any interruption of the protective ground conductor (internal or external to the instrument) or disconnecting the protective earth terminal will cause a potential shock hazard that could result in personal injury.
Chapter 2 Introduction 2.1 Overview This chapter describes the controls, inputs/outputs, indicators, and basic function of the GT-1000A. 2.1.1 Features and Benefits of the GT-1000A Microwave Power Amplifier Provides 10 Watts up to 8 GHz, and 5 Watts up to 20 GHz Provides up to 40 dB of gain over 2 to 20 GHz Incorporates the CAP Wireless patented Spatium™...
Introduction Giga-tronics GT-1000A Microwave Power Amplifier 2.3 Controls, Indicators, and Connectors The following pages describe all of the features shown in the Figure 1, Figure 2, and Figure 3 below. Figure 1: GT-1000A Front Panel Figure 2: Front Panel Indicators...
Table 1 describes the parts and functions of items on the front panel. Refer to Figure 1 on the previous page for the location of the items on the front panel. Table 1: GT-1000A Front Panel Controls, Indicators, and Connections GT-1000A Front Panel Controls, Indicators, and Connections...
This is a seven-digit serial number, and provides a unique identifier for each GT-1000A. Options When options have been included in the GT-1000A, one or more two-digit numbers are listed on this line of the label. For more information about options, see Appendix A on page 19.
Action Use the power switch on the front of the GT-1000A to switch the power OFF. On the rear of the GT-1000A, disconnect the AC line cord. The fuse compartment is located next to the AC line cord socket. Remove the fuse as follows (see Figure below): A) Use a small flat-blade screwdriver to pry open the fuse compartment.
Operation Manual AC line cord If any of the contents are damaged or missing, contact Giga-tronics immediately. Refer to the Contact Information on the inside of the front cover of this manual. End of procedure Page 8 Operation Manual, Part Number 34672, Rev.
2.5 Prepare the GT-1000A for Use 2.5.1 Cooling The GT-1000A has an internal cooling fan. The air intake is located on the rear panel of the instrument. When using the GT-1000A, ensure there are no obstructions to the flow of air into the instrument.
925.328.4702 925.328.4702 2. If it is has been determined that you must ship the GT-1000A to the factory or a service center for repair, you will be issued a Return Materials Authorization (RMA) number. Use the RMA number in all correspondence regarding the repair.
If desired, adjust the GAIN knob on the front of the GT-1000A (in normal operation, the gain adjust is set at maximum). NOTE: Do not exceed the safe limits of the output power from the GT-1000A into the load. The load should be rated for at least 30 Watts CW.
Giga-tronics GT-1000A Microwave Power Amplifier 3.2 Operator’s Maintenance The only operator’s maintenance that the GT-1000A requires is regular cleaning of the air exhaust screen and interior of the instrument. Both are important in order to maintain cooling airflow through the GT-1000A.
This chapter is divided into two sections: Specifications: this section contains all of the operating specifications that define the performance of the GT-1000A. Performance Verification: this section contains the test procedure that ensures that the GT-1000A meets the specifications. 4.1 Specifications...
Performance Verification Giga-tronics GT-1000A Microwave Power Amplifier Table 10: Gain Flatness Gain Flatness Frequency Range Specification 2 GHz to 20 GHz +/- 3.0 dB maximum NOTES: Nominal gain is 40 dB. Gain adjustment range is 10 dB minimum. Gain flatness is specified as maximum variation with -5 dBm input and 50 Ohm load.
Giga-tronics GT-1000A Microwave Power Amplifier Performance Verification Table 13: AC Fuse AC Fuse Operating Voltage Fuse Voltage Rating Current Rating 100 to 120 VAC 10 Amps 250 VAC 200 to 240 VAC 5 Amps The fuse is a Normal-Blow, type-T fuse for both input voltage ranges.
4.2 Performance Verification This section describes how to test the GT-1000A to verify that it meets Giga-tronics specifications. The overall operation of the GT-1000A Microwave Power Amplifier is checked using a broadband signal source, power sensor, and a power meter.
GT-1000A Performance Verification Procedure Step Action Connect the test equipment to the GT-1000A as shown in Figure 5 on the previous page. Note the following: The high power attenuator should be characterized at the test frequencies noted in the Table 16 on page 18. Use this characterization as an offset in the power measurement.
