Dust can build up inside the device, increasing the risk of damage or malfunction. • Never use benzene, paint thinners, detergent or other chemical products to clean the outside of the drive. Such products will disfigure and discolour the front panel and casing.

    User’s Manual 1. Introduction Congratulations on your purchase of a LaCie Dupli Disc CD121, the first of a new generation of smart and easy-to-use devices dedicated to CD duplication. A true stand-alone CD-duplication solution, your LaCie Dupli Disc CD121 is completely autonomous, requiring no software or computer to duplicate CDs.

    Data Safety LaCie and its suppliers accept no liability for any loss of data or any other damage, whether direct or indirect, resulting from the use or malfunction of this product. As a precaution, it is recommended that the discs be tested after they have been written to.

    The LaCie CD Utilities software enables users to write to CD media for backup, storage or audio and video applications. You will need to install this software on your computer system before you can write CDs using your LaCie Dupli Disc CD121 as an external CD-RW.

    1 Load/Eject buttons - Opens and closes the media trays. 2 Start button - To start the duplication/operation. 3 Power LED - Lights up when the LaCie Dupli Disc CD121 is plugged in and turned on. 4 Busy/Activity LED - Lights up or blinks when a CD/CD-R or CD-RW is inserted in the disc tray and accessed by the drive.

    Setting up your LaCie Dupli Disc CD121 for stand-alone duplication is a snap. Just follow the three basic steps below: Step 1: Read the Safety Precautions section of this manual in order to use your LaCie Dupli Disc CD121 safely and correctly.

    Your LaCie Dupli Disc CD121 is shipped with LaCie CD Utilities for Macintosh and Windows. This software will enable you to use your Dupli Disc CD121 to read and record data and audio files stored on your computer’s hard disk or on a disc in your computer’s internal CD/DVD-ROM drive.

    4) On the Windows desktop, open My Computer. Windows will have assigned a drive letter and icon for your drive. 5) Put a CD in the drive to test the drive. If the CD mounts (if its name is visible), you are ready to install the LaCie CD Utilities for Windows, which enables you to record onto CD-R/RW media.

    2) Connect the USB cable from your LaCie Dupli Disc CD121 to a USB* port on your computer. 3) Insert a disc in your LaCie drive. It will mount onto your Macintosh desktop, showing it is ready for use. *To achieve USB 2.0 speeds, your drive must be connected to a USB 2.0 host port. If it is connected to a USB 1.1 port, your drive will operate at USB 1.1 speeds.

    1) Turn off the LaCie Dupli Disc CD121. 2) Unplug the USB 2.0 cable from the LaCie Dupli Disc CD121. 3) Turn on the LaCie Dupli Disc CD121 and wait until the unit is initialized. 4) Use your LaCie Dupli Disc CD121 as an autonomous CD duplicator.
  • Page 18: Using Your Lacie Dupli Disc Cd121 In Stand-Alone Mode

    Always set your Speed and Mode before inserting a master and blank CD-R/RW into the drives. As soon Warning! as discs are inserted, the LaCie Dupli Disc CD121 will beep five times and then start the operation that it is set. Important Note: In order to cancel a duplication that is in progress, press and hold the Start button for five seconds.

    5) Press the Start button to begin the Test Mode. If the Test is OK, the LaCie Dupli Disc CD121 will beep once (one long beep) and eject the blank CD-R. If a recorded CD-R is placed in the CD-RW drive, the LaCie Dupli Disc CD121 will not start automatically and will keep the CD-R. If the Start button is then pushed, the LaCie Dupli Disc CD121 will beep three times and the Error LED will light.

    5) Press the Start button to begin recording in Test and Copy Mode. At the end of the duplication process, the LaCie Dupli Disc CD121 will emit a long beep, eject the recorded disc and the OK LED will light.

    If a CD-R disc is inserted, the LaCie Dupli Disc CD121 will eject the CD-R disc. Important Note: 4.7. Firmware Mode Use this function to update the firmware of your LaCie Dupli Disc CD121. For the latest firmware updates, please contact your LaCie reseller or LaCie Customer Support.

    3) Press the Mode button six times to move to Firmware Mode. 4) Insert the Firmware Update disc in the top tray. 5) Either press the Start button, or wait until the LaCie Dupli Disc CD121 emits five short beeps and automatically starts the Firmware update.

    5.1. Inserting Media To insert a disc, push the load/eject button on your LaCie Dupli Disc CD121. When the disc tray opens, put the CD media into the tray with the label side facing up. Make sure the CD is correctly placed in the center of the disc tray. Gently push in the disc tray or push the load/eject button to close it.

    The CD volume will appear as an icon on the Desktop. Click on the icon to have access to the contents of the CD. 5.5. Write Mode Please refer to your LaCie CD Utilities User's Manual for information on how to best use your CD-RW drive in write mode.

    1) Make sure that the USB cable is connected tightly and securely on both ends of the cable, from the drive to the computer. If you are using a USB cable other than the one supplied with your LaCie drive, check that your USB cable is properly certified.

    7.1. Issues With Stand-Alone Use When an error occurs with the CD media or with one of the drives, the LaCie Dupli Disc CD121 will emit a continuous series of long beeps. When an error occurs, the discs will not be ejected automatically, and the beeping will not stop until your press the tray open button.

    LaCie warrants your drive against any defect in material and workmanship, under normal use, for the period designated on your warranty certificate. In the event this product is found to be defective within the warranty period, LaCie will, at its option, repair or replace the defective drive.
