About Patch Bays and "Normalling"
Schemes
All Hosa patch bays feature "half-normalled" configuration (except for the
PHB-265, the PDR-369, and the MXL-369). Two pieces of gear that are con-
nected, one to the rear-panel top and one to the rear-panel bottom jacks, in any
single bay channel are automatically connected to each other. Plugging into the
bottom-front jack of that same channel breaks the connection.
This "half-normal" configuration is the perfect combination of versatility and
affordability, and it easily handles all of the patching scenarios needed by most
commercial and home studios.
De-Normalled operation for Hosa patch bays (straight-through wiring) is
accomplished by turning around selected internal channel modules 180
degrees, except on the PHB-360 and MHB-360 which can not be de-nor-
malled.

A "Half-Normalled" patch bay is incredibly versatile. By inserting a plug into the switching jack at the front bottom
position, you can break the "normal connection" between top and bottom at the rear. Here's a simplified example:

The PHB-265 uses recessed, front-panel switches to select half-normalled, full-
normalled or de-normalled operation, so rotating the modules isn't necessary.
The PDR-369 and MDR-369 XLR bays have no normalling (straight through
only).
