    Using the Weight Saver Preventing static electricity discharge The components inside your notebook are extremely sensitive to static electricity, also known as electrostatic discharge (ESD). ESD can permanently damage electrostatic discharge-sensitive components in your notebook. To avoid exposure to dangerous electrical voltages and moving parts, turn off your notebook and unplug the AC adapter, modem cable, and network cable and remove the battery before inserting the weight saver or DVD drive.
  • Page 5 Turn your notebook over so the bottom is facing up, then remove the battery. For more information, see “Changing Batteries” in your Reference Guide. Loosen the two memory bay cover screws that secure the memory cover. (These screws cannot be removed.)
  • Page 6 Using the Weight Saver Carefully slide the drive out of the drive bay. Do not use your convertible notebook without a DVD drive or weight saver in the drive bay. Store the drive in a clean and dry place. Replace the screw you removed in Step 9 into the notebook.
  • Page 7 Replace the memory bay cover, then tighten the cover screws. Insert the battery, then turn your notebook over. Connect the power adapter, modem cable, and network cable, then turn on your notebook. Reconnect all peripheral devices and replace any PC cards.
  • Page 8 Using the Weight Saver Loosen the two memory bay cover screws that secure the memory cover. (These screws cannot be removed.) Screw Screw Remove the memory bay cover. Be careful not to break off the tabs located on the bottom of the cover. If the cover does not remove easily, wiggle the cover to loosen it.
