Charging/Recharging the Backup Power System

120 Volt AC Charging
You can watch TV or listen to the Radio while charging the backup power batteries.
1. Plug the 120 Volt AC Adapter's barrel connector into the 12
Volt DC Power/Charging Outlet on the back of the unit.
2. Plug the 120 Volt AC Adapter's plug into any standard 120
volt AC wall outlet.
3. Charge the backup power batteries for a full 12 hours before
first use. Recharge them regularly so the unit is always ready
for emergency use.
Dynamo Hand-Crank Charging
For ease of use, the crank handle can be "locked" into place. Flip
the handle to release and press it against the unit's body to secure
into position. Rotate the dynamo crank handle clockwise (at a rate
of approximately 1-2 rotations per second with all functions turned
OFF for best results) to generate power if battery power is low and
to recharge the backup power batteries.
Using the 120 Volt AC Power Adapter
• Plug the 120 Volt AC Adapter's barrel connector into the 12 Volt DC Power/
Charging Outlet on the back of the unit.
• Plug the 120 Volt AC Adapter's plug into a any standard 120 volt AC wall outlet.
• Test by turning the TV ON before proceeding to general operation.

Using the 12 Volt DC Adapter

• Plug the 12 Volt DC Adapter's barrel connector into the 12 Volt DC Power/Charging
Outlet on the back of the unit.
• Insert the 12 Volt DC Adapter's plug into the accessory outlet of your vehicle or
other 12 volt DC power source.
• Test by turning the TV ON before proceeding to general operation.
Note:
Always unplug the 12 Volt DC Adapter cord from your vehicle's accessory
outlet BEFORE removing the plug from the unit.

Using Battery Power

• Open the battery cover (bottom of unit – see "Control and Function Guide," page
2) and insert 9 dry cell "C" type batteries.
• Test by turning the TV ON before proceeding to general operation.

PROGRAMMING THE UNIT

Before using the Emergency Weather Radio Alert feature, the unit should be
programmed with the Date and Time, as well as the user's County (FIPS – Federal
Information Processing Standards) Code(s) (to indicate which specific area or areas
to monitor for NWS Alerts) and preferred Alarm mode (VOICE, SIREN or OFF).
With the unit turned ON, pressing the PROG/STORE Button on the Program Control
Panel (see "Control and Function Guide," page 2) places the unit in programming
mode.

The Up (TIME) and Down (MEM) Arrow Buttons toggle through the main menus
(COUNTY, TIME SET, ALERT). The Left and Right Arrows (CH–) and (CH+) adjust
individual settings.

Setting the Time, Date and Alarm Clock

Use the TIME SET menu to set the unit's Clock and Date display. This is also the time
and date that will be attached to scrolling Alert messages, so these settings should be
accurate before you use the S.A.M.E. Weather Alert feature.
Setting the Clock
1. Turn the unit ON by turning the OFF/TV/WEATHER/AM/FM Dial to any setting
other than OFF.
2. Press the PROG/STORE Button to enter programming mode. The display will show
"ALERT MODE".
3. Press the Down Arrow (MEM) Button until "TIME SET" is displayed.
4. Press the Right Arrow (CH+) Button. The "CLOCK" setting will display. Press the
Right Arrow again to display the hour and minutes.
5. Use the Up or Down Arrow Button to adjust the hour, then press the Right Arrow.
6. Use the Up or Down Arrow Button to adjust the minutes, then press PROG/STORE
to save.
Setting the Date
1. Turn the unit ON by turning the OFF/TV/WEATHER/AM/FM Dial to any setting
other than OFF.
2. Press the PROG/STORE Button to enter programming mode. The display will show
"ALERT MODE".
3. Press the Down Arrow (MEM) Button until "TIME SET" is displayed.
4. Press the Right Arrow (CH+) Button. The "CLOCK" setting will display. Press the
Up or Down Arrow Button and "DATE" will display. Press the Right Arrow to
display the year, month and day.
5. Use the Up (TIME) or Down Arrow Button to adjust the year, then press the Right
Arrow to highlight the month.
6. Use the Up or Down Arrow Button to adjust the month, then press the Right Arrow.
7. Use the Up or Down Arrow Button to adjust the day.
When you have finished setting the Clock and Date, press the PROG/STORE Button
to save and return to standby mode.
Setting the Alarm
1. Turn the unit ON by turning the OFF/TV/WEATHER/AM/FM Dial to any setting
other than OFF.
2. Press the PROG/STORE Button to enter programming mode. The display will show
"ALERT MODE".
3. Press the Down Arrow (MEM) Button until "ALARM" is displayed.
4. Press the Right Arrow (CH+) Button. "ON" will display. Pressing the Up or Down
Arrow to toggle between the Alarm ON and Alarm OFF settings.
