Heavy static from the Sony ST-JX390 tuner may be caused by incorrect FM discriminator alignment or poor FM stereo separation adjustment. To fix this, tune the tuner to 98 MHz and perform the following:
1. For FM Discriminator Alignment: Use a VTVM and adjust T21 for a 0V reading at the NULL terminal. 2. For FM Stereo Separation Adjustment: Use an FM RF stereo signal generator set to 98 MHz and 60 dBy output level.
Also, check the antenna connection to ensure it is properly connected to the correct terminals (e.g., PJ1). Poor antenna signal can also cause static.
