    1. NAS Starter Utility 1.1 NAS Starter Utility Installation After you install a new hard drive on the NSA221, please make sure to use the NAS Starter Utility to discover and access the NSA221 to assign an IP address by DHCP or a static IP.

  • Page 4: Nsa221 Initialization

    After successful installation, click the “NAS Starter Utility”. The first screen of NSU shows the result of NSA Discovery. Click your NSA221’s button and click Run the Initialization Wizard to set up the NAS221. If the connection is green, it means this NAS is able to be reached by the PC shown in the screen.

    Click Import files or folders with zPilot to launch zPilot. When you would like to upload files to NSA221, just drag files onto zPilot icon. The files will be automatically uploaded and sorted based on their types: Music, Photo and Video. The files which are not the categorized in Music, Photo or Video will be uploaded to the Public folder.

    1.5 Directory Click Show the directory of the NAS and enter your username and password. Then the directory of NSA221 will pop up. You will see the files you uploaded through zPilot are automatically categorized by their types. Figure 19. NSU main menu.

    1.6 Device Management Click Manage the device and enter admin’s username and password to access NSA221’s GUI. Then the administrator can manage the device and change the configurations. Figure 19. NSU main menu. Figure 20. Enter admin’s username and password to login GUI.

    The username can be admin or other regular users. The Home screen displays. You can click on the icon to listen to the music, watch the movies or enjoy the photos stored in the NSA221. Figure 24. NSA221 Home Screen.

    Tube website (http://www.youtube.com). Additionally, automatically FTP uploading is supported in NSA221. To use this feature, you need to download the same package as NSA210’s. 2.1 Auto-upload pictures to Flickr For sharing pictures in Flickr website (http://www.Flickr.com), NSA221 supports automatically uploading pictures in given folder in NSA221.

  • Page 14 Figure 33. Configure “Grace Period” in the GUI. In this example, we configure the grace period as two minutes. This means that NSA221 will upload any new added pictures in the folder you specify after 15 minutes since you press apply button.

Please remember to press “APPLY” button after specifying the given folder. NSA221 will monitor any need added pictures in the folder you assigned after you press apply button.

    3. Package Management Package management is used to set up more useful applications in NSA221. This feature enables user to use the following applications: BackupPlanner, DyDNS, Gallery, NFS, PHP-MySQL-phpMyAdmin, SMART, SqueezeCenter, Wordpress and eMule. Firstly, click Applications > Package Management to display the screen. Then the applications are listed as below.

For Gallery, PHP-MySQL-phpMyAdmin, SqueezeCenter and Wordpress, you can access the applications’ web configurators through the Package Management screen or enter the IP address shown in the GUI in your web browser.

    Figure 41. Applications’ link. 3.1 Gallery Gallery is a web-based application that allows NSA221 to host photos. You can upload photos in the local computers or stored in NSA221. Use the administrator account of NSA221 to log in to the Gallery GUI.

    External file system: FAT32, FAT16, EXT2, EXT3 and Reiser FS. 4. Which kind of the multimedia server does NSA221 support? NSA221 supports Squeeze Center, DLNA server, UPnP AV Server, iTunes Server. 5. Does NSA221 support DLNA media server? Yes. NSA221 supports DLNA 1.5 compliant media server.
  • Page 23 9. Which kinds of web browsers are supported by NSA221? NSA221 supports Internet Explorer 6.0 and later versions, and Firefox 2.00 and later versions. Currently, NSA221 cannot support Safari now.
