    Names of Things and What They Do Front Panel You must install the driver before you connect the UM-2G to your computer for the first time. Install the driver as described in “Getting Connected and Installing Drivers” (p. 11). USB Cable Use this when connecting the UM-2G to your computer.

    [ADVANCED DRIVER] (mode select) Switch This switches the operating mode between Advanced mode and Standard driver mode. Normally, you should use Advanced mode (ON). This mode utilizes the UM-2G’s special, advanced MIDI driver. (Advanced This advanced driver uses *FPT technology for rapid, high-performance mode) MIDI transmissions.
  • Page 10 Names of Things and What They Do [MIDI THRU] Switch Selects the destination to which the MIDI messages that flow in through the UM-2G’s MIDI IN connector are to output. There is a separate switch for MIDI 1 and MIDI 2, allowing you to change this setting independently for each set of connectors.

    A “driver” is software that transfers data between the UM-2G and application software running on your computer, when your computer and the UM-2G are connected. The driver sends data from your application to the UM-2G, and from the UM-2G to your application. The installation procedure will differ depending on your system.

    Click the MIDI Devices tab. Confirm that UM-2G appears in the Audio MIDI Setup dialog box. * If UM-2G does not appear or if it is grayed out, it means that the UM-2G is not being recognized properly. Click [Rescan MIDI]. Also try disconnecting and reconnecting the UM-2G.

Quit your sequencer software before you disconnect the UM-2G from your Macintosh. • Select UM-2G for the MIDI Driver setting (as well as for other relevant items) within the software you’re using.

    MIDI messages from the MIDI device (e.g, MIDI keyboard, digital piano) connected to the UM- 2G’s MIDI IN connector are transmitted to the computer. * Don’t change the setting of the [MIDI THRU] switch while you’re using the UM-2G. Doing so will cause MIDI errors.

    MIDI messages from the computer are transmitted to the MIDI device (e.g., MIDI sound module, digital piano) connected to the UM-2G’s MIDI OUT connector. * Don’t change the setting of the [MIDI THRU] switch while you’re using the UM-2G. Doing so will cause MIDI errors.

    Even if the UM-2G is connected to a computer, no MIDI messages will be sent to the computer. * Don’t change the setting of the [MIDI THRU] switch while you’re using the UM-2G. Doing so will cause MIDI errors.

    If the driver installation could not be successfully completed, the installed driver may remain in an incomplete state. Uninstall the UM-2G driver as described in “Deleting the Driver” (p. 34), and then reinstall the UM-2G driver as described in “Getting Connected and Installing Drivers” (p. 11).
  • Page 26 • If you are using the UM-2G with a notebook computer that is running on its battery, operation may be unreliable with some models of computer. If this is the case, connect the AC adaptor to your notebook computer.

If your computer or USB hub has two or more USB connectors, and you connect the UM-2G to a different USB connector, you may be asked for the driver file even though the driver has already been installed in your computer.

If an operation involving a heavy processing load is performed while the UM-2G is in use, it may not operate correctly. If this occurs, stop playback/recording, and then try resuming playback/recording.

    Troubleshooting Deleting the Driver If you were unable to install the driver according to the procedure given, the UM-2G may not be recognized correctly by the computer. In this case, use the following procedure to delete the driver, and then follow the procedure to install the driver once again (p. 11).
  • Page 35 Disconnect all USB cables other than a USB keyboard or USB mouse. Prepare the CD-ROM. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive of your Macintosh. In the Driver folder of the UM-2G folder of the CD-ROM, double-click UM2G_Uninstaller. The display will indicate “This uninstalls UM-2G driver from this Macintosh.” Click [Uninstall].
