18 Clean the outside surfaces of the appliance with a damp cloth. If necessary, you may use a
little washing-up liquid to remove stubborn stains.

19 Use a 9 volt alkaline battery, type 6F22, the same size as a PP3.
20 Turn the scale upside down.
21 Press the latch towards the centre of the scale, to release the battery compartment cover.
22 Attach the connector to the battery terminals.
23 Slide the battery into the holder on the inside of the battery compartment cover.
24 Replace the battery compartment cover.
25 Turn the scale the right way up.
26 Don't leave a dead battery in the appliance, it may leak.
27 Unless you're using the scale regularly, it's best to remove the battery altogether.
28 Don't put old batteries in a fire or incinerator.
29 Don't try to recharge batteries unless they're specifically designed to be recharged.
30 Don't put the old battery out with your normal household rubbish. It must be disposed of in
an environmentally friendly way. Get in touch with your local authority, who will have
arrangements for its disposal.
