Many potential problems can be resolved by the owner without call-
ing a service technician.
If something is wrong with this product, check the following before
calling your authorised SHARP dealer or service centre.
I General
Symptom
G The clock is not set to the
correct time.
G When a button is pressed,
the unit does not respond.
G No sound is heard.
I CD player
Symptom
G Playback does not start.
G Playback stops in the
middle or is not performed
properly.
G Playback sounds are
skipped, or stopped in the
middle of a track.

Possible cause
G Did a power failure occur? Reset
the clock. (Refer to page 11.)
G Set this unit to the power stand-
by mode and then turn it back on.
G If the unit still malfunctions, reset
it. (Refer to page 30.)
G Is the volume level set to "0"?
G Are the headphones connected?
G Are the speaker wires discon-
nected?
Possible cause
G Is the disc loaded upside down?
G Does the disc satisfy the stan-
dards?
G Is the disc distorted or
scratched?
G Is the unit located near excessive
vibrations?
G Is the disc very dirty?
G Has condensation formed inside
the unit?
I Tuner
Symptom
G The radio makes unusual G Is the unit placed near the TV or
noises continuously. computer?
G Is the FM aerial or AM loop aerial
placed properly? Move the aerial
away from the AC power lead if
it's located nearby.
I Cassette deck
Symptom
G Cannot record. G Is the erase-prevention tab
removed?
G Cannot record tracks with G Is it a normal tape? (You cannot
proper sound quality. record on a metal or CrO tape.)
G Cannot erase completely.
G Sound skipping. G Is there slack in the tape?
G Is the tape stretched?
G Cannot hear treble. G Are the capstans, pinch rollers,
or heads dirty?
G Sound fluctuation.
G Cannot remove the tape. G If a power failure occurs during
playback, the heads remain
engaged with the tape. Do not
open the compartment with
great force.
