How do I use Trans-It after connecting it to my computer?
After Trans-It has been connected to your computer's USB port, the operating system will recognize and initialize it. In
Windows, click My Computer or Windows Explorer and then Trans-It will appear as an additional drive. Mac users will find
the icon on the desktop. You can use Trans-It exactly like a hard drive.
My computer doesn't have USB 2.0. Can I use Trans-It with USB 1.1?
Yes, the drive is backwards compatible with your computer's USB 1.1 port.
Can I use a USB 1.1 extension cable with Trans-It?
Yes, USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 cables are the same.
With what operating systems is Trans-It compatible?
Trans-It was designed for compatibility with Windows 98SE, 2000 ME, XP and Mac OS 9.0 or higher.
Trans-It is connected, but I don't see a drive letter or an icon in My Computer or Windows Explorer for the drive.
How can I correct this?
First, make sure the drive is fully inserted into the USB port.
If that doesn't help, try pressing F5 to refresh My Computer and Windows Explorer.
If you have other drives installed on the system, Windows may try to install Trans-It as the same drive letter. Here is the fix:
1. Open Control Panel.
2. Click on Administrative Tools.
3. Click on Computer Management.
4. Click on Disk Management.
5. Trans-It will appear in the listing.
6. Right click on Trans-It and select Change Drive Letter and Paths.
7. Click Change.
8. From the pulldown box, select an available drive letter.
9. Click OK and then Yes to verify your selection.
10. Close Computer Management and Control Panel.
The drive should now appear correctly in Windows Explorer and My Computer.
Do I need to format Trans-It before using it?
No, Trans-It is ready to use out of the box.
With Macs, a formatting message may appear if your computer has not been set up to read Windows-formatted files. Refer
to the computer's user's guide to learn how to enable reading Windows files with it.
If you format Trans-It with NTFS, the drive will have less available storage space than if you don't format it.
I can't find the files I stored on Trans-It. Where are they?
If data transfer was interrupted by removing the drive from your PC without following the correct procedure or by power
failure, the files may have been corrupted. Restart your computer and attempt to access the files. If this is unsuccessful,
you can try using recovery software. TDK does not supply, support or endorse recovery software. The software may or may
not be successful in recovering your files. If the files are unrecoverable, you will need to reformat your drive as outlined
below.
WARNING:
Reformatting permanently erases all data on your drive.
Windows XP:
1. Close all open applications including anti-virus software.
2. Double-click on the My Computer icon on the desktop.
3. Right click on Trans-It.
4. Select Format from the drop-down menu that appears.
5. Click on Start then click OK in the warning screen. A Format Complete notice will appear after a few seconds. You can
now use the drive normally.
