  • Page 4: Back-Up Battery Installation

    The Accelerator Eclipse Learning PC operates on 4 AA size batteries (not included) and Getting Started 2 AAA size back-up batteries (not included) or a 9V AC adaptor (sold separately). Battery Installation 1. Make sure the unit is turned off.

    Auto-off The learning PC will be automatically turned off after about 5 minutes of no input from the player. Mouse Connection Ensure the unit is turned OFF. Lift the mouse jack port cover at the back of the unit and plug the mouse into the mouse jack. To ensure the mouse is kept clean, keep it on a clean mouse pad.

    Starting the Accelerator Eclipse Learning PC Turn on your Accelerator Eclipse Learning PC using the [On] button located at the upper right corner of the keyboard. At the end of your session, remember to turn off the power using the [Off] button at the upper left corner of the keyboard.

    Caution: Do not scratch or damage the metal contact plate of the Smart Card. Only insert Oregon Scientific Smart Cards into the Smart Card drive. 1. Plug the Smart Card into the Smart Card drive on the right side of the unit.

    [Enter] key. If no game is selected after about 20 seconds, the Accelerator Eclipse Learning PC will automatically make a selection for you. Pressing the [Esc] key at anytime will move you one step back through the selection process.
  • Page 9 Hold down [Function] and press F3 to see the answer. Pause You can pause an activity by pressing the Oregon Scientifc logo key. The Accelerator Eclipse will periodically emit a sound to warn you that it is paused. Press any key to resume play.
  • Page 10: Two-Player Mode

    1. Initiate the two player mode by pressing [Player 1/2] on the keyboard after the first question appears in the current activity. The Accelerator Eclipse will ask for the players' names. 2. Player 1: Type in your name and press [Enter].
  • Page 11 Two-Player Game Rules Each attempt to answer a question is timed (1 minute for levels 1-5, 30 seconds for level 6). Ten points are awarded for the first attempt, six points for the second attempt, and no points for an incorrect answer. No hints are available in the two-player mode. Game questions come in groups of ten.

  • Page 13 Press [Enter] when the duck with the desired letter on it appears in the gun site. Mumbo Jumbo The Accelerator Eclipse shows an animation and says a word. The word then appears scrambled. Type the correctly spelled word in the spaces.
  • Page 14 Sounds Like The Accelerator Eclipse shows an animation and says the word. From the four choices given, select the word that begins with the same sound. Jackhammer A sentence scrolls across the screen under the jackhammer. There is a space missing in the sentence.
  • Page 15 Whoever scores the most points wins the game. Concentration The Accelerator Eclipse shows an animation and says the word. It then displays the letters of the word in a grid. You must remember the position of the letters of that word. After the letters are hidden, position the arrow cursor over the tiles and click the left mouse button or press the [PgUp] key to uncover them.
  • Page 16 Vocabulary Opposites The column of words on the left must be paired up with their opposite meanings on the right. Scroll the right hand column by using the up and down directional cursor keys. Press the [Enter] key when the words are matched. Twin Terms You must find the synonym of the word at the top of the screen.
  • Page 17 Word In Word You must delete a letter from a word to create a new word. Use the left and right directional cursor keys to highlight the balloon with the letter you wish to remove and press the [Enter] key or the [PgUp] key to pop it. Grocery List A food category is spoken and displayed at the top of the screen.
  • Page 18 Division Type the correct answer in the space provided. Numbers appear from left to right. Drop In An equation with missing numbers is shown at the top of the screen. Some fish with numbers on their sides swim across the bottom. You must solve the math problem by supplying the missing numbers.
  • Page 19 Use the number keys to fill in the time as shown on the clock face on the right. Answer must be in 12 hour format. Wild World The Accelerator Eclipse will play an animal sound. You must select the animal that made the sound from the choices given.
  • Page 20 Sour Notes The Accelerator Eclipse will play a melody once and then play it again more slowly with an incorrect note. You must identify the sour note and press the [Enter] key as soon as you hear it. You have to be fast!
  • Page 21 Who’s Who A picture briefly appears on the screen. You must remember this picture and select the same one from a choice of four similar pictures that the Accelerator Eclipse then shows you. Picture This A picture is divided into eight tiles and shown briefly. It then appears scrambled up.
  • Page 22 Press a letter to make your first guess. If you do not get it right the Accelerator Eclipse will repeat the clue and narrow the choices by including your guess in the clue. You have three guesses.
  • Page 23 Press the [C] key to clear the melody memory. Number Puzzle Five number tiles are arranged on a 3x2 grid. The Accelerator Eclipse jumbles the tiles up and you have to put them back in order. By clicking on a tile adjacent to the space you can move it into the space.
  • Page 24 The new document screen will appear. Use the character keys to type in and edit your document. You can return to the word processor menu at any time by pressing the [Esc] key. The document is automatically saved. NOTE: If the storage capacity is full, a warning screen will appear and ask you to delete a document before creating a new one.
  • Page 25 Press the [Esc] key on the upper left corner of the keyboard. Print-a-Card Make sure that the Accelerator Eclipse is connected to a printer. Select a card from the card list and press [Enter]. You will then have to select a printer from the options given.
  • Page 26 Data Bank This tool allows you to store the addresses and birthdays of your friends and relatives. You must type in your password to gain access to the data bank. There are four options: New, Search, Delete or Print. New Data Bank Entry The Data Bank entry screen has five fields: Name, Phone Number, Address, Email Address, and Birthday.
  • Page 27 Be careful to match the case of the let- ters. The Accelerator Eclipse will display the abbreviated records (name and phone number) of the entries most closely matching your search. Select the entry to be deleted and press the [PgUp] key or left mouse button.
  • Page 28 Doodle Pad Select objects from the palettes to create your own picture. The right part of the screen is the canvas. On the left of the screen is a set of shape icons. Selecting one of them gives you a set of sizes to choose from. After you have chosen a size you can move the flashing shape around the canvas with the directional cusor keys.
  • Page 29 Keyboarding Finger Machine Follow the lessons and learn to type the letter keys using the correct fingers. Type the displayed letter using the finger indicated on the screen. Sprint Type the moving letters on the screen as fast as you can. If you successfully type all the letters on the screen the runner will jump the hurdle.
  • Page 30 Key Quiz A word is shown on the screen briefly. You must remember the word and type it incorrectly after it disappears. Invasion Letters move across the top of the screen. Each time they get to the sides they will move down the screen and more letters will appear above them.
