Advanced Interactive eXecutive. A version of the UNIX operating system
from IBM that runs on various IBM computers including Mainframe
systems.
A local area network protocol for communication between Apple
Computer products and other computers and peripherals.
Address Resolution Protocol. A protocol within the TCP/IP suite of
network protocols that allows a host to find the physical address of a
node on the same network. ARP cannot be used across routers.
Verification of identity, for instance by use of digital signatures.
A method to automatically set an IP address in the absence of a DHCP
server.
Bonjour enables automatic discovery of computers, devices, and services
on IP networks without the need to enter IP addresses or configure DNS
servers.
BOOT Protocol. A TCP/IP protocol, used for downloading start-up
information such as the IP address to hosts on the network. BOOTP
requires a BOOTP daemon on your system. A request made to an active
BOOTP daemon initiates a search of the Boot Table for an entry matching
the print server's Ethernet address. If a matching entry is found, the
daemon downloads the IP address to the print server.
Berkeley Software Distribution. The University of California, Berkeley
additions to the UNIX operating system.
An organization or company that issues digital certificates.
This is a file that resides in the print server's memory and contains all the
parameters that determine the print server's functionality. By editing the
config file (changing the parameter settings), you can configure the print
server to meet the printing needs of your network.
Means that print jobs are sent to a file server, with different clients
attached to the print queue, rather than directly to the print server (Peer-
to-Peer printing).
