  • Page 29 Holding the Camera Hold the camera steady with both hands and brace your elbows against your sides. Shaking or unsteady hands can blur your shots. To avoid interfering with the C eff ect and to pre- vent pictures that are out of focus or too dark (under- exposed), keep your fi ngers and other objects well away from the lenses and fl ash.

    Focus Lock To compose photographs with off -center subjects: Position the subject in the focus frame. AUTO Focus. Press the shutter button halfway to set focus and exposure. Focus and exposure (and in C mode, parallax; pg. 13) will remain locked while the shutter button is pressed halfway (AF/AE lock).

    N Using the Flash (Super Intelligent Flash) When the fl ash is used, the camera’s Super Intelligent Flash system instantly analyzes the scene based on such factors as the brightness of the subject, its position in the frame, and its distance from the camera.
  • Page 38 Focus. Press the shutter button halfway to focus. If the fl ash will fi re, p will be displayed when the shutter button is pressed halfway. At slow shutter speeds, k will appear in the display to warn that pictures may be blurred; use of a tripod is recommended. Shoot.

    h Using the Self-Timer The camera off ers a ten-second timer that allows photographers to appear in their own photographs, and a two-second timer that can be used to avoid blur caused by the camera moving when the shutter button is pressed. The self-timer is available in all shooting modes. Set the timer.
  • Page 40 The self-timer lamp on the front of the camera will blink immediately before the picture is taken. If the two-sec- ond timer is selected, the self-timer lamp will blink as the timer counts down. Intelligent Face Detection (D) Because it ensures that the faces of portrait subjects will be in focus, Intelligent Face Detection (pg. 64) is recom- mended when using the self-timer for group portraits or self-portraits.

    Shooting Mode Choose a shooting mode according to the scene or type of subject. To select a shooting mode, press the MODE button to display the mode selection menu.
