UNIVERSAL RCA TO CAT5 ADAPTOR
The U•CAT
is an adaptor plate which allows
most RCA A/V signals, including high
definition video, to be sent over standard CAT5
wiring.
There are four independent circuits on the plates
which can be used for any combination of video
(composite or component) and audio (analog or
digital) signals. A standard RJ45 jack on the rear
allows interconnection between plates.
Plates are sold in pairs, and are the same for
transmit and receive, allowing the plates to be
used for two-way communication.
Transmission distances can be 100 + feet,
depending on signal type and wiring.
CAT5 CONNECTIONS
Route the CAT5 cable to the wall box where the U•CAT
the CAT5 cable using 568B connections.
Plug the CAT5 cable into the jack on the back of each U•CAT
using screws provided. Install Decora surround plate.
For best performance, keep wiring as direct as possible, and avoid running it near power or other
signal wiring.
A/V CONNECTIONS
Connect up to four RCA cables from a source to the
RCA jacks on the U•CAT near the source. See table at
right for suggested colors. Connect monitor or amp to
the appropriate jacks on the other U•CAT .
APPLICATIONS
Because the four circuits on the U•CAT
be freely used for any combination of audio or video signals. Use all four circuits for component
video plus digital audio, three circuits for composite video plus stereo (analog) audio, or two
circuits for stereo audio. For component video with stereo audio, use two runs of CAT5 with two
U•CAT
plates at each end. Circuits may be used in both directions as well; for instance two-way
composite video with mono audio (2 circuits each way).
For longer runs or in noisy environments, use Audioplex active CAT5 drivers.
