This document describes how to install a battery backup module on a MegaRAID controller board. The battery backup module is a card that connects to the top of the MegaRAID controller board and provides emergency battery power for cache memory. A battery pack mounted on the battery backup module preserves data in cache memory for up to 72 hours.

Use a quarter-inch nutdriver to remove the screw that secures the MegaRAID controller board to the system chassis. Retain the screw. See the following figure. If you are installing the MegaRAID controller for the first time, remove it from its antistatic bag. Place the MegaRAID controller on a flat, clean, static-free surface.

Large Screw To connect the metal clip: Place the metal clip flat against the MegaRAID controller board. Align the threaded hole of the metal clip with the hole of the battery backup module. See the following figure. Insert a 2-56 screw through the battery backup module and into the metal clip, and tighten the screw.

To connect the battery pack cable and install the MegaRAID controller: Attach the battery pack cable connector to J2. See the following figure. MegaRAID Controller Board Battery Pack Cable Install the MegaRAID controller in the system. Close the system base unit. See the system’s documentation for details on closing the base unit.
