Either the Sartech ARG 5410 (Artex P/N 453-0131 available in Kits 455-9010-01, 455-9010-02, 455-9010-03 or 455-9010-04) w/ coax, and attenuator or Artex ETS (Artex P/N 453-1000 available in Kit 455-9100) or an equivalent test set may be used. Contact the Artex Sales department for details and current availability.
Artex has deleted other files such as “.dll” files that appeared at this prompt and suffered consequences. Therefore, unless disk space is almost full or disk backups are available, Artex does not recommend deleting any files at this prompt. Select the appropriate response button.
The 500-0232 Level Shifter performs a simple but crucial function for communication with an Artex 406MHz style ELT. It inverts and raises the data signal from the ELT to an RS- 232 signal level. This enables the ELT to talk to a personal computer for programming or diagnostic purposes.

Note 2: The Cospas-Sarsat 15-digit ELT Identifier allows manufacturers 16,383 possible serial numbers. Artex has reached that limit with these ELT’s. For ELT’s that pass the 16,383 Serial number and move on to a 3-digit prefix, two different Cospas-Sarsat numbers will be assigned to that ELT. In this case Cospas-Sarsat number 112 is used for Manufacturing Serial number 00001 to 16,383;...

“Normal Frame Sync”. That corresponds to the 2F prefix in the 32 digit hex code. If this setting is ever different from Normal Frame Sync, notify Artex Aircraft Supplies immediately, as the ELT’s functionality depends on this setting. The other possible setting is a test setting that corresponds to a D0 prefix in the 32 digit hex code.

Enter a production run number in the “PRODUCTION RUN” dialogue box. The ELT manufacturer assigns this number. This number is typically the remaining digits of the ELT unit serial number, after the first four. Artex limits values to the range listed in the grid above. Hit “ENTER” (screen or keyboard).

ARTEX AIRCRAFT SUPPLIES Document # 570-2225 Note: The wiring of the 611-0111 harness only connects the six PA wires to the level shifter and ELT or PA-PI. Any other wiring installed on the PA connector will not be attached. It is therefore irrelevant if the additional lines are active or powered off at this time.
ARTEX AIRCRAFT SUPPLIES Document # 570-2225 7.2 Software Operation The PA is programmed in the exact same manner as the C406-N ELT. The reason for this is that the PA holds the identical programming as the attached ELT, and simply updates the ELT if there is a difference.
8.1.1 Verify successful ELT programming using the “Programming Verification” section of this manual. 8.1.2 Complete the copy of the “ARTEX 406 MHz PROGRAMMING RECORD” for this ELT. Return the form to the Artex Repair Station Manager at Artex Aircraft Supplies. See details in the labeling and registration sections of this manual.
406 MHz transmission can occasionally reach a satellite and contact Search and Rescue. NOTE: The following instructions assume use of the Sartech ARG 5410 Test Set (Artex P/N 453-0131), if using the Artex ETS (Artex P/N 453-1000), refer to the ETS Manual (570-1000) for instructions and examples of screen views.

The following steps should be taken to properly test the 406 MHz output. Any extended testing of the ELT should be performed inside of a RF screen room or container.

PA re-labeling set includes: 591-5070, C406-N PA Re-Labeling Label Reprinted full product label available on special request There is one special case to consider. If an ELT is intended for use with the Artex ELT/NAV INTERFACE 24 bit address auto-reprogramming function, the final labeling information may not be known at the time reprogramming.
Fax or mail a completed copy of the “ARTEX 406 MHz PROGRAMMING RECORD” included in this manual to the “Artex Repair Station Manager” for every ELT or PA that is reprogrammed. A printout of the new 15 and 22/30 digit hex codes and decoded message data must be included.

“BCNCode” button, if enabled: This feature imports the currently displayed 32 digit hex code into the BCNCodes software for detailed analysis. When finished, the BCNCodes program must be exited from by hitting the escape key (Esc) four times. The “Artex” software relies on this fact.
Press the “CTRL-ALT-DEL” keys together. This will bring up a Windows task list. You should see the software routine (called Artex ELT Programmer) on the list. Select it and chose “End Task”.
