Check Engine Oil
Checkoil levelbeforeeachoperation.Be sureoil levelis maintained.
1. Checkthe oil with the enginestoppedand level.
2. Removethe oil fill dipstickand wipeit clean.
3. Insertand tightendipstick.Removeitto checkthe oil level.
4. If the oil levelisnear or belowthe lowerlimit mark on the dipstick,
removethe oil fillercap/dipstick,and fill with the recommended oil
to the upperlimit mark.Do not overfill.
5. Reinstallthe oil fill dipstick.
Change Engine Oil
Gasolineand its vaporsare extremelyflammableand explosive.
Fireor explosioncancause severeburnsor death.
Changeengineoil after thefirst five hoursof operation,and everyfifty
hoursor once a seasonthereafter.
lWhen drainthe oil from the oil fill the fuel tank mustbe
you top
tube,
emptyor fuel canleak outand resultin a fire or explosion.Toempty
the fuel tank, runthe engine untilitstopsfrom lack of fuel.
1. Withengine off butstill warm,disconnectthe spark plugwireand
keepit awayfrom the sparkplug.
2. Placea suitablecontainernextto the engineto catchthe usedoil.
3. Removethe oil fill dipstickand drain theoil intothecontainerby
tippingtheenginetowardthe oil fillerneck.See Figure14.
Used oil isa hazardouswasteproduct.Disposeof usedoil properly.
IDo not discardwith householdwaste.Checkwith yourlocalauthori-
_ties or SearsServiceCenterfor safedisposal/recycling facilities.
4. Withthe engine in a levelposition,fill to the upper limit markon
thedipstick with the recommended oil.

Clean Engine
• Dailyor beforeevery use, cleangrass,chaffor accumulated
debrisfromengine.Keeplinkage,spring,and controlsclean.
Keeparea aroundand behindmufflerfreeof any combustible
debris.
• Keepingenginecleanallows air movement a roundengine.
• Engineparts shouldbe keptcleanto reducethe risk of overheat-
ingand ignition of accumulated debris.
Do not usewaterto cleanengine parts.Watercouldcontaminate fuel
system.Usea brushor dry cloth.

LUBRICATION
Blade Control
Lubricatepivotpoints on the bladecontrolat leastoncea seasonwith
light oil.This control mustoperatefreely inbothdirections.See Figure
15.
Wheels
Lubricate the wheelsat leastoncea seasonwith light oil (or motoroil).
If wheelsare removed for any reason,lubricatethe axle boltand inner
surfaceof the wheelwith lightoil. See Figure15.
Grass Catcher Adapter
Lubricate the torsion springand pivotpointon eachend of the grass
catcheradapterdoor at leastonce a seasonwith lightoil to prevent
rust.See Figure15.
Transmission
The transmissionis pre-lubricated and sealedat thefactory and does
not requirelubrication.
